Week 1 Blog – Group 28

Week 1 was fun and full of thrilling activities for Group 28. Wednesday was such an exciting day, as we started off with pioneering where we learned how to navigate and survive in the woods! We then dived right into swim where we took our swim tests and then had fun playing in the pool. The rain couldn’t stop us at outdoor ceramics! We were so lucky there was no class inside the ceramics building so we got to go inside and make awesome pinch pot baskets. After free swim, Group 28 showed off our kickball skills! Thursday was expected to be a very cloudy raining day but luckily the weather was the total opposite once we arrived at camp! We got to go to all four activities without the interruption of the weather. In photography, we were put into groups of three’s and had to complete a photography scavenger hunt. We had so much fun taking pictures of nature and each other. We then Following an awesome free swim period, we proved that we were tennis pros. It was awesome seeing everyone enjoying the game. After sweating so much at tennis Group 28 was so excited to go to swimming again. Afterward, we ended the day with our first yomilectives. We talked about it all day and were so happy to go to the activities. Friday we showed our agility skills at pop fit kids!  It was like a mini obstacle course. We also showed off some of our best chef (and eating) skills at what some may call camps best activity: COOKING. We were excited to cook and eat the delicious snack. We, of course, like every Friday had Shabbat where we sang songs. We finished the day showing off our coolest dance moves at Zumba which the kids had a blast at. We can’t wait for next week and what it brings to group 28.

Week 1 Blog – Group 27

Group 27, The Liberty Ballers had a blast in their first week of camp, with lots of exciting activities and loads of energy! This week the sun was out and about and shining down on all our happy campers. We all got to play fun icebreakers and “get to know you games” where each camper told a little bit about themselves and what made them true New Yorkers. Next, Group 27 took on both the rain and heat wave we had this week by streamlining through swim testing and exciting free swim activities. We then had an exciting time in our Indoor Ceramics class, making our own 4th of July baskets in honor of Independence Day. Group 27 found their inner superstar athlete skills in Lacrosse this week, by showing off their footwork and catching skills. We also enjoyed playing Newcomb Volleyball in the cool summer breeze. The Liberty Ballers also took on their first round of Yomi-lectives, in which campers got to enjoy specific activities, of their choosing, in more depth. These included Farm to Table, horseback riding, Pioneering, Coding/Lego Robotics, and many more! We finished up our week with some awesome Arts and Crafts, and our energetic cheering with our newfound friends at camp. As exciting as our first week was, the Liberty Ballers can’t wait to bounce on into next week’s activities which hold even more fun! We all hope you enjoy your weekends and tune in next week for more on our exciting camp experience!

Week 1 Blog – Group 26

The terrific taxis bounded into their first week of camp! We started our first day back with baseball where the taxis zoomed their way around the field and practiced batting, as well. Then, we headed our way to swim where our taxis suddenly grew some gills! We all had a blast together in the water and were so glad to cool off. At jewelry, we got to make some cool USA bracelets and they all looked super cool. We went home super happy and excited for Camp. Even though it rained at first on Thursday, we couldn’t be held down. We dashed to Camp and had quite a ball! And, when the sun came out the day got even better. We showed off our soccer skills and made some far out robots on painting and drawing. We all went home with gigantic smiles on our faces. Once Friday rolled around, we were so excited to get back to Camp. We had a blast in the pool as we cooled off from the hot sun! We also went to Shabbat where we listened to some great tunes and sang along, as well. Now, that the week is over we are so happy to be back at camp. It has been the greatest first week ever and we are so excited to be coming back this Monday! Have a good weekend and we’ll see you on Monday!

Week 1 Blog – Group 25

Group 25, The Happy Hot Dogs, had a phenomenal 1st week at camp. When we first arrived at camp, we got to meet all the campers and counselors in our group while taking a tour of the garden. We played many fun games in the pool such as Marco Polo and Volleyball against another group. We ended our first-day climbing unbelievable heights at the Climbing Tower. On Thursday, we created distinct self-portraits of ourselves and played an intense match of Soccer. We ended our week shooting stellar videos at Filmmaking, singing and dancing to many songs at Shabbat, and shooting arrows like Katniss Everdeen at Archery. We can’t wait for next week filled with lots more fun!

Week 1 Blog – Group 24

Group 24 was super excited for the first week of camp! We began by completing exciting icebreaker activities so we could learn more about each other.  Our first activity was ceramics where we made beautiful baskets for the Fourth of July. This week, we also enjoyed gymnastics where all of us learned to do rolls while also working together as a team to complete tricky obstacles. Group 24 got technical at   Lego Robotics where we built and operated our own robots! Even though this week was short, we sprinted into our yomilective classes such as Farm-to-Table, Horseback Riding, Baseball, and many more!   We showed our green thumb at gardening and learned about the grape vines camp Yomi is growing. Soon the grapes will be red and we can eat them. Yum!  We stayed nice and cool by swimming our way around the pool.  We swam, and played pool games such as water volleyball! Group 24 ended the week celebrating Shabbat where we all got to eat challah and drink juice. We can’t wait for what next week has in store!

Week 1 Blog – Group 23

What an exciting start to our summer! Although we started off Camp with less than desired weather, Group 23, the Subway Surfers, made sure to bring on the energy have a great time in all of our activities. We began with painting and drawing, creating stories for our robot friends out of oil pastels and had yoga, where we learned moves included in the sun salutation and became “one with nature”.  We also participated in flying squirrel, facing our fears and flying high. Our week continued with cooking, where we incorporated some healthy fruits into making delicious nachos, along with Jewish culture, learning about the meaning of Shabbat and its blessings. Our swim periods have been filled with tons of fun pool games and cheer-offs as we cooled off from the heat. Group 23 ended our first week at camp with more athletic activities such as gymnastics and Pop Fit Kids, all while keeping hydrated and sun screened in the heat.  We look forward to having our first full week of camp soon, and hope that everyone in Group 23 has a blast this summer!

Week 1 Blog – Group 22

The first week of camp was a blast of fun for the Group 22 Pigeons! We were all super excited to dive into camp and get to know each other! First, we flew our way to basketball where we learned to improve our ball handles through drills and exercises while also hitting some amazing shots from way downtown! After that, we splashed our way through the swim tests to know which swim groups everyone was going to for instructional swim throughout the summer. Next, we kicked our way onto the soccer field where we had an electrifyingly competitive match. The Yellow Jersey team hit a crazy buzzer beater at the last second to tie the game! Painting and drawing rolled by, where we all released our inner Michaelangelos and painted some amazingly detailed symmetrical robots. We also got to play floor hockey, where the Orange and Yellow teams clashed off against one another. Finally, we ended the week with a Shabbat celebration, where we sang and danced our hearts out to spirited cheers while eating delicious challah and drinking thirst quenching grape juice. With week one complete, we are all super excited to rest up and get ready for our second week of Camp Yomi fun!

Group 20 Blog, Week 1

The Greatest Globetrotters hopped into the first week of camp with enthusiasm as we started off with ice breakers and improv! We slowly got to know everyone’s names and lively personalities just as the sun slowly but surely came out to surprise us towards the end of the week! As the sun came out, we all had a blast splashing around in the pool and skipping happily to and from each activity! Luckily, we were able to relax and show off each of our quirky asanas at yoga. Afterwards, we were able to showcase our awesome artistic skills at arts and crafts and create spectacular self portraits! Also, we were able to end our successful week as we cheered our cheeriest cheer while we went to pioneer, and went googoo for a game of gaga in the sand! We squeezed in some time before the end of the day to test our growing photography skills as we snapped photos of the garden. Lastly, we played our hearts out in basketball and swam like beautiful fishes in the refreshing pool as our Friday came to an end. Not to mention we earned ourselves group of the week! Go group 20! We are all overjoyed by a fantastic first week and cannot wait to start off the next one with even more enthusiasm!

Group 21 Blog, Week 1

Wow, what an incredible beginning to the “Terrific Travelers’” journey through Camp Yomi! On Wednesday, we started the day off with super silly stretches in Yomi Yoga! Next we went full ninja mode in the fantastic Rope course. After that, we created cool collages in awesome Arts and Crafts. When we were done, the terrific travelers took a terrific journey to the field and played Mr. Fox, with tons of close, exciting rounds. After we were done in the field, the Terrific Travelers trail blazed to the coding center where we solved super serious, tricky puzzles. At the end of the day the Terrific Travelers traveled to the pool and splish splashed in the super cool water! Thursday, we took charge in the the kitchen and made crunchy, yummy apple nachos. When we were done with our tasty treats, we journeyed over to the zapping zip-line and zipped over all of our camp Yomi friends. On Friday, the Terrific Travelers took a terrific trip to the field and got sweaty with some super fun soccer. After that, we got groovy with our dances moves at Zumba. When our daytime dances came to an end , we did the moonwalk over to jewelry making and made some dazzling USA-bracelets. Then, as usual, we concluded the day with two back-to-back periods in the pool. So sure, the weekends’ cool, but camp Yomi is awesome. And that’s why we can’t wait to do it all again, next week.

Group 19 Blog, Week 1

In our first week of camp, Group 19, the “World Wanderers,” waltzed right into Wednesday, or, to be more precise, pioneering, where we learned how to work as a team to solve tricky puzzles. Afterwards, we bounced over to baseball and coach showed us how to hold, swing, and release a bat just right. Not to mention how to make a crazy dash to first base! We all played like superstars during soccer and learned a ton about robots in lego robotics; we also learned about coding during Lego robotics. On Thursday the kids had a blast — a messy one at that — making little buckets during ceramics. Later, during swim, the kids laughed and yelled with excitement as we passed around a big bouncy ball. On Friday we all did our best Michael Jordan impression during basketball and drew like Picasso during painting and drawing. Naturally, when Shabbat came around, and the music began, “The World Wanderers” were among the first to jump up and dance. We all left camp on Friday with anticipation for next week, and we just can’t wait to see each other again.

Group 17 Blog, Week 1

The Courageous Cruisers zoomed right into the first week! We started the week off with one of our favorites, Ceramics! There, we made some awesome 4th of July pots that we painted in red and blue! It really got us excited to see the fireworks on 4th of July! We also started the week geared up to play Tennis with the super cool coach, Mango! We learned to correctly hit the ball over the net with intense accuracy and even beat some of our counselors in a game! It rained hard this week, but that only pushed the counselors to get more creative with our activities! We cooked some deliciously amazing s’more nachos with bananas, Marshmellows, chocolate, and granola! On Friday we had Shabbat, where we enjoyed some tasty challah and grape juice. Then, together, we danced to the songs of the Shabbatoons! When it wasn’t raining, the sun was beaming. And so, since our frequent water breaks just weren’t enough, we topped off each day with a well-deserved swim! It felt so refreshing to walk into the pool and swim like dolphins! Courageous Cruisers had an amazing time this week at camp and can’t wait for the next one!

Group 18 Blog, Week 1

As Group 18, “The Frequent Flyers,” know better than anyone, time flies when you’re having fun. Which is why our first week passed in the blink of an eye! We started our summer by taking a short trip from the unit to yoga, where the kids learned tons of new poses and exercises. The campers then blasted off to soccer, where they showed off their super soccer moves. Even though it started to rain, nothing was going to stop us from giving the activities our all. In Photography, we split up in groups and went on a picture scavenger hunt. We learned how to pull weeds at gardening and topped the day off with swim! There, we played Red light green light, water-style, and the kids had blast. At archery, every camper cheered along for their friends and their counselors as loud as they could. Next, a game of Gaga with all the campers and counselors got the energy for the group higher than ever. Finally, we tight-roped our way over to circus arts — the specialist of which was hilarious — and, of course, on our way to each activity, we sang our favorite cheer, “Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.” This is only the beginning of what will be an amazing camp experience this summer at Camp Yomi!

Group 13 Blog, Week 1

After a thrilling parent night on Thursday, group 13, The Jazzy Jetsetters, reunited on Wednesday and the excitement hasn’t stopped since.  We leapt right into a friendly, yet competitive game of soccer. The amount of sportsmanship, and energy was amazing to see in the first hours of camp. The Jazzy Jetsetters then cooled off and relaxed in Yoga and got to know each other by sharing their favorite yoga poses. Returning and new campers quickly became part of The Jazzy Jetsetters and Unit 2 family at Camp Yomi. Group 13 was able to bring all their energy and excitement to a thrilling game of baseball! The counselors couldn’t be prouder of this group because regardless of the skill level of each camper, The Jazzy Jetsetters never stopped supporting and motivating each other to succeed in hitting some really great home runs! After this really great game, the group got to cool off in the pool and get to know each other in a fun game of water tag as well as Marco Polo! On Thursday, group 13 bonded even more through name games as well as a game of Red Light Green Light and What Time is it Mr. Fox? The Jazzy Jetsetters then went to art and created imaginary underground scenes. We then got into a action-packed, surprising game of kickball where the campers beat the counselors by 10 points! It was incredible! We’ve never seen group 13 be more of a team! Friday, The Jazzy Jetsetters got to show off their jazzy dance moves and spirit at Shabbat! We are so sad week one came to a close, but we hope everyone has an amazing weekend and we’ll see you on Monday for an exciting and spirited second week!

Group 11 Blog – Week 1

WOW! The first week of camp was an amazing one for Group 11, The Shining Sharks. On Wednesday we showed our creativity by making our own bracelets/necklaces in jewelry making. We also had our very first swim!  On Thursday we were able to use our “artistic eye” in taking pictures of the garden and broke a sweat during Pop Fit Kids. And on Friday, Group 11 showed off our dribbling skills at basketball and had an amazing time at Shabbat, where we really were able to come together as a group and a unit! We know this week was a short one, but it was packed with so much fun. And, we know that all of us us here in group 11 will have an even better week this coming week. Have a great weekend!

Group 10 Blog – Week 1

This week was our first week of camp, and group 10, The Silly Seahorses, has already done so many activities! First things first: swimming! The Silly Seahorses swim twice every day; all the campers are having a great time cooling off in the water. We know many of them are looking forward to being better swimmers by the end of the summer. We also had Zumba, and the group got to work off some of their energy by doing some cool dance-fitness. After Zumba, we had Gardening, where we got to know the Yomi Garden and see some different plants. We also had Cooking, which many of the campers said was their favorite part of the day! They made yummy apple “nachos” with fun toppings.

Every morning we start with fun station! For now, that means we’re all getting to know each other by doing some ice breakers. We also played some field games, and then had Music with Nelson, where everyone got to play different instruments! We got to try arts and crafts, where all the campers got to draw self-portraits to bring home with them; they had tons of fun using oil pastels and their imaginations.  We ended the week with Baseball, Filmmaking, and the celebration of Shabbat where everyone gets their share of Challah and grape juice!  The cherry on the top of this week was winning group of the week!  We’re so excited!  We had so much fun this week and we’re really looking forward to the next one!

Group 9 Blog – Week 1

Group 9’s first week at Yomi went swimmingly! The Swimming Sea Dragons dove into the first day of camp with gusto! We started off our Wednesday by turning our name/fun fact introductions into a game, where our counselors guessed each camper’s names and favorite color. Everyone was super excited about our game and it was such a fun way to get to know each other. Then our group went to the very first swim of this summer!  We all spent our pool time relaxing and having a great time in the water. In our Arts and Crafts period, our campers made self portraits so good, it was like looking into a mirror! We also had a great time in Soccer and Zumba where everyone worked up a sweat. On Thursday, we all went to film-making, where everyone got to be directors and make a special group 9 video! We then had some fun at the Jewish Culture station where we learned more about Shabbat!  On Friday, we got to celebrate Shabbat with all of Unit 1 and one of our very own counselors won counselor of the week!  We’re looking forward to next week! Have a wonderful 4th of July!

Group 8 Blog – Week 1

The Super Starfish’s first week at camp went swimmingly! On the first day of camp, we played ice-breakers to get to know each other, and made super fashionable baskets out of clay. We also explored the wonderful garden containing fresh veggies and mint leaves! The weather may have been questionable, but as one of the group’s favorite cheers goes, we B-E-A-T beat em! beat em! The group was all smiles in the pool, playing with each other and the counselors. We let our creativity shine through as we drew what we’d like to find underground, tried tasty apple nachos in cooking, and played relay games in pop-fit kids on Thursday! We also had so much fun dancing at Shabbat, and showing off our awesome skills at soccer! We all left camp highly anticipating another fun week!

Group 7 Blog – Week 1

For the first week of camp, group 7 (A.K.A The Golden Goldfish) got to know each other with a name game. Each camper said their name and a few things about themselves. The Golden Goldfish also played a game of soccer with everyone split up into three teams! Next, The Golden Goldfish also made some amazing nature collages in arts and crafts. Group 7 had fun making fourth of July themed bracelets and necklaces in jewelry making and hit many home-runs in baseball! We then had fun bouncing on the trampoline and balancing on the balance beam during gymnastics. The Golden Goldfish also learned about calming their mind and body in yoga. On Friday, The Golden Goldfish danced and celebrated Shabbat together with all of Unit 1! We can’t wait for next week and the new exciting activities to come! Have a good weekend!

Group 6 Blog – Week 1

What a wonderful first few days of camp the Jolly Jellyfish had! On Wednesday, we played soccer with our new camp friends and even got to score against the counselors!  During gymnastics we jumped on a trampoline and in yoga, we did silly poses with our partners. On Thursday, we made self portraits and added something unique to them. Some of us added our parents, friends, and even pets in our portraits! Next, we took our baseball skills to the field and played a great game. Then we left our bats and gloves behind and started to learn about the different leaves and trees on our very own camp grounds! We even saw mushrooms growing right near our shelter! On Friday, we got to visit the garden and dance will all of Unit 1 at Shabbat.  Above all, we can all agree that swimming is the best part of the day. From racing from one end of the pool to the other, going underwater and practicing our swim skills with the life guards, it’s always a fun time! We can’t wait for more fun activities and cheers for next week.

Group 5 Blog – Week 1B

What a wonderful second week of camp it has been at Camp Yomi, especially for Group 5! The Popping Puffer Fish started off the week right by making swans that were made out of clay, and by having an extra free swim, making it two for the day. Instructional swim started on Tuesday. Tuesday was a great day at Camp Yomi for group 5 even though it rained! The group did enjoy a great time doing gymnastics. On Wednesday, the 4th of July there was no camp as everyone was out and celebrating the holiday. Group 5 hopes everyone had a well spent day off and enjoyed time with their families!  Thursday was an incredible day as it marked our first late night as a group and as a unit. With three swim periods, a scavenger hunt, making oceans, and having a picnic on the field, we, as the Popping Puffer Fish, would say we had a terrific second week here at Camp Yomi. On Friday we enjoyed Shabbat as a whole unit and sang songs to celebrate the holiday. Every camper in group 5 loved basketball, and it was even recognized as one of the best sports that every camper in the group has played.  We hope all our group 5 families have a great weekend and we’re really looking forward to next week!

Blog: Group 4 Week 1

Group 4 was super excited to start off our rockin’ summer with some getting to know you games on the Unit K field! Once we all got to meet our new summer friends, the Rockin’ Raindrops couldn’t wait to get in the pool! We practically swam like fishes even when it started to drizzle. After a delicious lunch, we danced like crazy at Zumba–we had so much fun we didn’t even break a sweat! Our next activity was improv, and it was super silly. We played a game called “Screenshot” and pretended to be things we find in pictures, like tall trees and sand at the beach! The next day we started making shooting stars to decorate the shelter. We absolutely loved Jamming at Music with Nelson, we sang so loud that the entire camp could hear us! We had so much fun at Shabbat, singing and dancing along to the Shabbatones and enjoying this special time with our counselors and new friends.

Blog: Group 3 Week 1

And so Yomi begins! Group 3, The Astro Aliens, soared into the week with some getting to know you games like “Where the Wind Blows”. They quickly realized how much they have in common with their summer friends! The campers were excited to then get in the pool and splash along with their counselors and new friends. Later in the day, the campers brought out their giggles at Improv Acting when they made silly animal noises. On Thursday we started the day with ceramics where the campers sculpted some beautiful pinch pots that they can take home in the next few weeks! We then swung into summer fun during baseball at the Mets field. After running around the bases like crazy, we had a blast making music and preparing for Shabbat at Jewish Culture. On Friday, we started off with imagination playground, where we got to play with huge blue foam blocks. The Campers went wild with their imaginations, building towers, slides, and whatever else they could think of. During Shabbat, we listened and sang along to some fun songs and danced with our counselors and friends. Everyone enjoyed the challah and grape juice snack! On this hot Friday, we enjoyed swiming in the nice cool pool! Zumba and soccer were great afternoon activities to cap off a great first week to what will be an amazing summer.

Swim Shoe Reminder

Dear Unit K Families,

I am so excited to have you join our camp family this summer!

Unit K campers are lucky enough to have their own changing room that is located a short walk from the pool. That means that every camper should be sent on the first day with a pair of flip flops, crocs, or any water-proof slip-on shoe to make the changing process as easy as possible. These shoes will be kept at camp in cubbies and sent home on your campers last day. Please label your campers’ shoes with their first and last name.

If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a voicemail at 212.415.5643 ext. 5, or email me at yomik@92y.org.

Warmly,

Anna

Unit K Supervisor

Welcome to Unit 3!!

Hey Unit 3 Families!

As you know by now, I’m Jeremy Burgess, the Unit 3 Supervisor. I will be returning for my 13th summer at Camp Yomi, and my 2nd summer as the Unit 3 Supervisor. During the school year, I am a 3rd grade teacher.

I love working at Camp Yomi and enjoy coming back each and every summer. Something I’m super excited for this summer is the overnight. I’ve been a part of many overnights in the past and they are always tons of fun. It’s like one huge sleepover with all of your friends! In the beginning of every summer, I watch the campers and counselors meet at camp not knowing each other quite well, and then, they leave the summer having made a best friend or a memory that lasts forever.

This summer Unit 3’s theme will be the greatest city in the world, New York. We have fun activities planned, so get ready!!

Upcoming Important Dates:
Sunday, June 10- New Family Picnic
Monday, June 25- Parent Night at 92Y
Tuesday, July 10- Parent Night at the campgrounds
Thursday, July 19- First Overnight
Thursday, August 9- Second Overnight

You contact me by phone at 212-415-5643 ext. 2 or email at yomi3@92y.org.

I’m looking forward to an incredible summer together!

Welcome to Unit K!

Dear Unit K Families,

My name is Anna Ziemski and I will be the Unit K Supervisor this Summer 2018!

I’d like to be one of the first to welcome you to the Camp Yomi family. For many of our campers, the Unit K experience is a summer of firsts: first back float, first soccer goal, or first life-long friend. We take pride in fostering an environment in which each camper feels safe, confident, and enthusiastic during his or her new adventure!

Additionally, I am excited to announce the Unit K Theme for this summer: Up in the Air! Think helicopters, fireworks, clouds, birds, insects, and anything else that flies high! This theme will be reflected in our arts and crafts, games, costumes, and action-packed late-night activities, all throughout the summer! Our Late-Nights will be held up at the campgrounds on Thursday, July 5th and Thursday, August 2nd.

If you have any questions about Unit K or Camp Yomi in general, please do not hesitate to contact me at yomik@92Y.org or call the Camp Office at 212.415.5643 ext. 5. I am also working in the Camp Office during the months leading up to the camp season and will be available to speak on the phone or correspond via email with you if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s summer experience.

Finally, I’d like to mention two important upcoming Camp Yomi events. Sunday, June 10th from 11am to 3pm is our New Family Picnic at the Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds in Rockland County. Buses will leave from the 92Y at 11am and return at around 3pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for you and your campers to see the grounds and sample some of the exciting activities we offer. No RSVP necessary!

June 26th from 5:30 to 7pm is Unit K’s Parent Night at the 92Y. At this event you’ll be able to meet your child’s counselors, Head Counselor, our Camp Director Ivy Manheim, other children in your camper’s group, and me. No RSVP necessary.

Looking forward to meeting your camper; we can’t wait for Summer 2018!

Warm Regards,

Anna Ziemski

Unit K Supervisor

Welcome to Unit 1!

Hi Unit 1 Families!

Camp Yomi is just around the corner and I couldn’t be more excited.

I am Julie Kline and will be the Unit 1 Supervisor for Summer 2018. I wholeheartedly believe in camp. Camp is a place where children can be themselves, make new friends, try a variety of activities, take risks, and grow physically, emotionally, and mentally. (Fun is obviously and always included!) We cannot wait for your camper to be surrounded by the positive energy of Unit 1’s committed and caring staff.

Unit 1’s theme for the summer is…(drumroll please)…UNDER THE SEA!!! Get your snorkels and fish faces ready because it’s going to be a SPLASH.

Important Dates:

  • May 15 – Medical Forms are due
  • June 10 – New Family Picnic (For more details, check out the flyer in the documents section, or contact the camps office at 212.415.5573 or campmail@92y.org.)
  • June 21 – Parent Night at 92Y (Bring your camper to the Y to meet his/her counselors and other campers in the group!)
  • July 5 – Late Night!
  • July 17 – Parent Night at Camp
  • August 2 – Late Night!

A little bit about me…I am entering my third (and final!) year at Bank Street College of Education, where I am pursuing my Master’s degrees in both General Childhood Education and Teaching Literacy. I received my Bachelor’s degrees in Human Development and English, with a minor in Education from Binghamton University.

My camp career started in Scottsdale, Arizona, where I was a kindergarten and first grade sports camp counselor for three years. Since working at the 92nd Street Y over the past four summers, I have been a Unit 4 Supervisor, Counselor, and Unit 1 Head Counselor. Outside of camp, I’ve had many experiences in a variety of schools, including teaching second grade at Bank Street School for Children, fifth grade at P.S. 234, and kindergarten at The Heschel School. I also worked alongside a third and fourth grade learning specialist at The Little Red School House.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or just want to say hi, please always feel free to email me at yomi1@92y.org.

Looking forward to an amazing summer ~Under the Sea~ with you and your camper!

Respectfully yours,

Julie Kline

Unit 2 Welcome Message 2018

Welcome Unit Two Friends & Families!

My name is Sarah Caro and I am thrilled to return as the Unit 2 supervisor for Summer 2018!  I have been a part of the Camp Yomi family since 2010 and my FAVORITE camp activities are Zipline & Ceramics!

I cannot wait to meet all of you and spend our summer together!  When I’m not at camp, I teach 8th grade English and Special Education in the Bronx throughout the year.  This is my fourth year teaching! In my personal time, I love to watch movies, play with my 3 AMAZING dogs, and indulge in creative projects.  I am also an avid traveller and have been to 12 different countries, hoping to go to many more. (Hint!) I most recently went to volunteer teach in India.

This year Unit 2’s theme is… (drumroll please)

Passport to Unit 2…. World Travelers!!!

But I’m sure you already guessed that! This summer will be filled with passport stamps, cultural explorations, and we will definitely travel the world from the comfort of camp this summer!  We’ve got a ton of adventures planned and I cannot wait for you to join our Unit 2 family!

– June 10th
Unit 2 Parent Night –
@92Y – June 21st; @Camp – July 17th
Late Night 1 – July 24th

Yomi Unit 4 letter

Hello Unit 4 Families!

Welcome to Summer 2018! My name is Maddy Weinfeld and I am so excited to be Unit 4’s Supervisor for this upcoming summer! Last year, I was a Unit 3 Head Counselor at Camp Yomi and love everything about camp. I am so excited to get to know all of the Unit 4 campers and know that we will have an amazing summer together! My favorite camp activities are cooking, swimming and tennis. More than the activities, I love the cheering, spirit and most importantly, the friendships made at camp. I am counting down the days until the summer fun begins!

Outside of camp, I am graduating from NYU’s Silver School of Social Work in May with my Master’s in Social Work and I will be joining a group practice as an associate therapist in the fall. I plan to incorporate what I have learned in graduate school to my work with your children this summer in order to be the best Supervisor I can be!

I am excited to share that Unit 4’s theme this summer is going to be “The Greatest Unit Four,” inspired by the movie, “The Greatest Showman.” We have many exciting upcoming events that I want to make sure everyone has marked on their calendars.

New Family Picnic: June 10

Parent Night at the 92nd Street Y: June 25

Yomi Directors Message

Welcome Families!

I am so thrilled to be returning to Camp Yomi for a fabulous summer 2018. We have been working hard all year to plan a wonderful summer experience for your camper – including Wacky Wednesdays & special events, new activities and hiring outstanding counselors.

As we continue to strive to be innovative and increase experiences for all children, I am excited to share that this summer we will be expanding our inclusion program to help build the gap between Camp Tova and Camp Yomi. This summer, one period three days a week some Camp Tova campers will join a Camp Yomi group. Our goal is aligned with 92Y as a place of community, growth, and a positive learning environment.

During the school year, I work in an elementary school in Queens as a school counselor. If you have any questions or information to share with me, you can contact me at imanheim@92y.org. I check my email regularly and will get back to you at my earliest opportunity. If it is an urgent matter, please contact the camp office at 212-415-5573 where one of my full time colleagues will be able to assist you.

Please be sure you log onto the health form by May 15th.

Please check back on the parent portal to get more updates for Camp Yomi Summer 2018.

I’m excited for a fun, cheerful and spirited summer with you and your camper!

Bring your camp spirit,

Ivy Manheim
Director, Camp Yomi
