Group 13 Blog, Week 2

Coming back from a fabulous weekend group 13 returned to embrace plenty of new faces. We landed right into a fierce, affectionate and energetic game of lacrosse where each camper learned different skills, but showed off their own. The jazzy jetsetters then continued with their high spirit and energy on the way to baseball. Group 13 shows the true definition of sportsmanship to one another, and cheered on both teams. Soon enough the new campers settled in and began to see that they were joining a group full of amazing returning campers in unit 2 and the yomi family. This Wednesday was, as always, a wacky one. And even though not all campers were dressed up, we all participated in the goofy activities. The counselors were also filled with a huge amount of spirit, support, and energy, which contributed to success in all games, but also at just making each camper have an amazing time. Later, during the day, group 13 had a blast as we all splashed in the pool and played with beach balls, playing games like marco polo, shark in the pool, and the dolphin races. The jazzy jetsetters then used their creativity in painting and drawing where they drew their own giraffe and then painted it. As the days go on I can say that group 13 is turning into a family rather than just a group. We can’t wait to see the other fun and amazing activities that Camp Yomi has to offer!

Group 20 Blog, Week 2

It was yet another fantastic week for Group 20! We had an amazing start on Monday at Outdoor Ceramics where we carved, scratched, and attached our heart’s out creating our perfect pinch-pot baskets; and that was only the beginning. We all embodied our best majestic robots at Zumba, played like pros at Baseball, and became brilliant environmentalists at Nature. On Tuesday we sprang into action at Soccer and had a World Cup of our own. But wait, who could forget the afternoon jam session with Nelson?! Our Group 20 chorus could out-class even the greatest of symphonies! By the time Wednesday came around, we could hardly contain our excitement; it was mouse ears, capes, and crowns galore as we dressed up as our favorite storybook characters for Wacky Wednesday! From relay races, to a Unit 2-wide Scavenger Hunt, to even a live Quiz Game show in the Amphitheater, our Wacky Wednesday was action packed from the get-go. As if our week couldn’t get any more exciting already, Thursday brought more fun than we ever could have imagined. At Lacrosse we learned how to master shooting–seriously, every single person made a goal! Then, we picked up our water bottles, put on our Group 20 smiles, and headed off to Hobby Hour. From activity to activity we consistently showed off our Group 20 abilities–truly cementing our legacy as the Greatest Globetrotters.

We marched into soccer where we scored goals left and right, and the campers took on the counselors, winning as per usual. On Tuesday, the highlight was cooling off at the water gun obstacle course! On Wednesday, we had so much fun dressing up as our favorite Storybook characters and made the silliest giraffe in Painting and Drawing! We kicked off Thursday by making the most amazing bracelets and had so much fun on our nature walk. The Shining Stars found themselves laughing uncontrollably during Circus Arts. We laughed so hard and got to balance feathers on our hand. Our spirits were higher than ever during Shabbat on Friday, where we got to dance along to our favorite songs and enjoy delicious grape juice and challah. The Shining Stars cannot wait to see what the summer brings next.

Blog: Week 2 Group 1

“Actives” at Camp:

Our beautiful campgrounds have over 50 acres of grass, courts, and fields to play on. With over 12 active activities, our campers are sure to get in the game! Our sports activities are coached by professional sports organizations and instructors such as; The Baseball Center, Tennis Innovators, and Super Soccer Stars.

This week, Fly Yoga instructors coached campers on how to create stories using only body movements. Campers dribbled down the court at basketball, learning special reasoning on the court.

Unit 3 and 4 campers have the option of joining the weekly Sports Club activity for even more sports in their schedule. During Sports Club, campers enhance their skills, receive extra practice time and specialized instruction.

 Counselor of the Week

Every week we choose an extraordinary staff member(s) from each unit who exemplifies all five of our camps’ core values. We look for someone who is compassionate, mindful, courageous, a leader, and most importantly an overall mensch! These individuals go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure smiling, laughter, and safe summer fun! These handful of super counselors get the esteemed honor of being Counselor of the Week.

Group 1 Blog:

The Happy Hot Air Balloons flew into the second week of Camp Yomi! They used all their energy dribbling at Basketball and running the bases at Baseball–everyone did amazing even though it was some of their first time playing. On Tuesday, they showed off their best smiles at Picture Day and loved getting their very own Yomi Bear T-shirts. Group 1 danced into Wednesday when they had Jewish Music, where they got to learn all the spectacular songs that they were going to sing on Friday during Shabbat. Thursday brought the best of both worlds with the thrilling Mini Zip and then had some relaxing time under the Yoga tree where they shared their favorite activity at camp. Group 1 finished off the week singing and dancing together with all their friends at Shabbat, sipping on grape juice and enjoying delicious challah!

Week 2 Blog – Group 6

The Jolly Jellyfish couldn’t have had more fun this week! This week started out with a hot Monday, but our group still had fun during our numerous activities, including a fantastic game of Gaga. On Tuesday The Jolly Jellyfish truly expressed their inner musicians by playing awesome beats and singing during Music with Nelson. Group 6 took on this week by really enjoying all of their instructional swim and free swim activities. We then had an appetizing experience during our Gardening class in which each camper got the opportunity to taste the delicious fresh vegetables and herbs grown in our very own garden! On Wednesday morning the sun was out and about for our first Wacky Wednesday, the theme being “Storybook Characters!” Our whole unit dressed up as their favorite character. Our campers enjoyed many activities all centered around storybook characters and particularly enjoyed the puppet making where they each got to make a puppet of their favorite character. In the afternoon, Group 6 enjoyed a lovely class of yoga where they got the opportunity to demonstrate their flexibility and relax. We finished up our week with some awesome dance moves in Zumba where campers danced out all their spirit and energy while playing a FREEZE-tastic game of freeze dance! And we can’t forget Arts and Crafts where the Jolly Jellyfish made amazing sun catchers in hopes of hanging them on their windows. As exciting as our week was the Jolly Jellyfish can’t wait to swim into next week’s activities which will hold even more fun! We all hope you enjoy your weekend, and tune in next week for more on our exciting camp experience!

Group 18 Blog, Week 1B

Even though it was only 4 days, this was a packed and exciting week for group 18! On Monday we started off by going to the flying squirrel, a camp favorite. All the kids cheered each other on as everyone took a turn. We had a fun time at painting and drawing where everyone made self portraits that represented how they see themselves. After lunch on Monday, we were able to make 4th of July themed cookies in cooking, where the kids got to decorate the cookies themselves with sprinkles, melted chocolate, caramel and many more goodies. On Tuesday all the kids really engaged in coding and had a great time dancing their hearts out in zumba! Despite being a rainy day on Tuesday we were able to splash around and have a good time in the sprinklers. We are looking forward to more awesome memories with this great group of kids!

The Terrific Travelers jumped into our super second week of camp. We started off the week with some brilliant base running at baseball. Then headed on over to ceramics where we made some spectacular swan bowls. The Terrific Travelers had a tantalizing time at tennis on Tuesday, showing the whole group their amazing forearm stance. We also made uber cool underground drawings at painting and drawing! We came back from our lovely Fourth of July break on Thursday and enjoyed filmmaking by making super silly clips for next week’s wacky Wednesday video. At LEGO robotics, the whole group was wowed after we programmed our robots to move around and talk! Group 20 Blog, Week 1B

Group 20’s week was a home run, starting with baseball on Monday. We split up into teams and played a good, clean game while cheering on our friends. At lego robotics we teamed up to program a robot to move back and forth (might have some potential engineers in the future)! On Tuesday we had archery, which seems to be the favorite activity among the boys of the group. Later that day we all grabbed a video camera to show off what group 20 is really all about and video taped us being our ridiculous and goofy selves. There was no shortage of excitement on Thursday, either. We kicked off the day by making some spectacular Sahara Desert themed bracelets. Then we picked up our cameras, chef hats, and water bottles as we showed off our Group 20 skills all around camp during Hobby Hour—afterall, we’re called ‘The Greatest Globetrotters’ for a reason. After lunch we headed over to the tennis courts where we learned how to hit some fantastic forehands. As you can see, there was no shortage of fun and laughter this week from Group 20 and we look forward to another great week ahead!

On Monday the Superstar Sailors made pinch pot turtles in Outdoor Ceramics and launched into a thrilling ride on the zipline. On Tuesday we exercised our musical talent in Music with Nelson, jamming out to variations of Pop Songs and numbers written by The Beatles. After our break for the Fourth of July, Group 16 practiced various circus skills including juggling, plate spinning, and ribbon dancing. This eventually led us to fill our appetite with the star-shaped cookies we decorated in Cooking. The Superstar Sailors ended the week honoring
the Shabbas and with an exciting, though friendly, game of Ga-Ga. We hope you all have an amazing weekend and we look forward to another fun-filled week at camp!

Group 12 Blog, Week 1B

The Silly Sightseers started off their second week of camp with many fun new activities. The campers worked together as a team and showed tremendous support to each other in every activity. They began magnificent Monday with the Flying Squirrel where they went super duper high into the air and cheered their way down. Later on in improv, the campers and counselors all worked together to have a silly and relaxed time. Lastly, they showed off their pro-like tennis skills. Terrific Tuesday was started in the glamorous garden where the campers learned fantastic facts about plants, and even got to water some as well. Next came yoga, where everyone got to relax and show off their marvelous yoga moves. Then in lacrosse and soccer, the campers learned all about the sport and played amongst themselves where they made some spectacular scores. The campers made some lovely jewelry for Fourth of July in jewelry making. Thrilling Thursday was a relaxed day for the campers where they showed some amazing Zumba moves and were able to participate in an activity of their choosing. Each day ended with a chance to cool off in the pool with sweet splashes. But of course to cool off from the humid heat throughout the day, the campers and counselors all played their favorite game, Mickey! This week the Silly Sightseers has a blast, and we’re looking forward to the weeks to come and what camp Yomi has in store for us next!

Group 14 Blog, Week 1B

Group 14 had a great time this week. We started off the week by having a zesty time zip lining. Even campers who were a little nervous, at first, ended up going with the help of their counselors running through the field by their side. We also had a dazzling time drawing self portraits and pictures of the world above and below. Group 14 then had a glorious time at gaga and gymnastics where the campers beat the counselors! Later in the week we had hobby hour where each camper chose a hobby that made them most happy hearted. Overall, group 14 had an utterly fantastic week.

Despite the wacky weather over the past week, the World Wanderers (Group 19) dove into it with full force and smiles all over their faces shining brighter than the sun that failed to join us on Tuesday. During archery, the World Wanderers put on their bravest face and met their target head on. The bullseye had no chance against the mighty wanderers of the world. In lacrosse, the World Wanderers put on their game faces as they played steal the bacon. During pop fit kids, the World Wanderers became olympic track athletes as they participated in multiple relay races across the ginormous grass fields. The World Wanderers joyfully jumped into our next activity, swim. From volleyball to camper swim races, the World Wanderers had a splashing time in the pool. This week was one full of unforgettable memories and World Wanderers cannot wait to embark on many, many more. Week 3, here we come!

Group 17 Blog, Week 1B

The Courageous Cruisers blasted into the second week with overwhelming energy and excitement. The group started out the week with laughs and giggles at Improv, where the campers and counselors could act out practically anything they could think of! On Tuesday, the camp week got even better, even though it seemed like it was the hottest day of the year. The group favorite activity was definitely Zumba, with the campers and counselors getting down and doing some crazy dances and stretches! One day, there was a storm, but that didn’t stop the entire group from having fun! The campers ran through the sprinklers and got to sing cheers in the shelter, and by the end of the day, despite swim’s being canceled, it seemed just a great a day as any. We all came back on Thursday and told stories about what amazing times we had with friends and family on the 4th of July, and jumped right into high-gear with the day starting out doing the zip line! Later, campers — for an exciting first time — got to swim with their instructional swim groups. The second week felt even more action-packed than the first, and we can’t wait for more fun activities and adventures to come!

Group 15 Blog, Week 1B

The Valiant Voyagers (group 15) flipped into our second week at camp at
gymnastics where we learned to jump to the stars and crawl like a
bear! We took all of that energy and excitement to improv where we created
our own crazy skits to act out to the group. While flying through
filmmaking, we turned invisible! Soon after we landed in the sandy
beaches of volleyball where we played an awesome game of newcomb just
before heading to lunch. We cheered all the way to Mets field before
docking at the cool waters of the pool. Tuesday we started off at
outdoor ceramics where we made heart bowls that we decorated with our
own beautiful individual designs. We soared down to basketball where
we practiced our dribbling skills and ran some drills. We sang our way
over to cooking where we decorated sugar cookies in red, white, and
blue sprinkles in honor of the 4th of July! We made a pit stop at
pioneering before making our way back to the shelter for lunch. We
jammed out with Nelson and his instruments singing can’t stop the
feeling, count on me, and despacito until it was time to take off to
our final destination for the day, the pool. Unfortunately, thunder
stopped us from getting into the pool, but it didn’t stop us from
splashing in the sprinklers with all of our friends from the entire
unit! Wednesday was the 4th of July where we hope all campers had  a
relaxing day off and enjoyed the fireworks! It was like group 15 had
time traveled when we also began Thursday with ceramics where campers
made everything from sea turtles to flying turtles! Each camper flew
to their own destination for hobby hour and came back with incredible
stories about what they had done. We came back together as a group to
learn new skills in lacrosse before it was time for a delicious lunch.
Kickball was a blast as we raced around the bases kicking home runs!
As we started to get closer to the end of our day, we played with a
beach ball in the refreshing water of the pool until we had our first
instructional swim period of the summer! We can’t wait for another
week of having fun and eating popsicles and hope all of our amazing
campers and their families have a wonderful weekend!

Group 13 Blog, Week 1B

Group 13 had an amazing time this week! We started off the week with archery, where we showed our skills with a bow and arrow. We had a early Fourth of July celebration in cooking and made red white and blue sugar cookies; they were delicious! Later we relaxed with some wonderful yoga and batted hard at baseball! Sure, it rained. But that can hardly be said to have stopped us! We had a great time running around in the sprinklers and we cheered the LOUDEST even with thunder and lightning in the background! Jumping to gymnastics we had a blast, we got to hobby hour and did activities like basketball, gardening, and ceramics. We then went to kickball and it was so much fun to kick around and play games with our group. But let’s not forget one of the best parts of camp: THE POOL. We splished and splashed and played with beach balls. It’s was refreshing and so much fun! We can’t wait for the weeks to come!

Love, group 13

On Monday, the kids had a ton of fun playing soccer. Many of them scored goals and some of them even managed to get a Hat trick!  Tuesday was a day like no other, during the middle of the day it started pouring cats and dogs.  However, we were able to overcome the rain by gathering around in the shelter and singing wonderful cheers which each group participated in. Group 9 Blog-Week 1B

Group 9 started off their second week at camp Yomi with a big splash!! The Swimming Sea Dragons showed just as much enthusiasm as they did last week. They always have a warm welcome in the morning by talking to the new friends that they have made, as well as all of us playing games in the grass together. Despite the hot sun, The Swimming Sea Dragons continued to beat the odds not letting the heat stop them. Showing so much energy through this amazing week. We made the most of this week especially during Tuesday. The day was searing hot but we still managed to do our activities. One of the activities was Pop Fit Kids, where we would go through a series of mini obstacle courses and show off our strength! Then, we enjoyed jamming out in music with Nelson, where we played all sorts of instruments and sang many songs. And to end the day it began to rain, but did that stop us? Of course not! We kept up our positive energy by singing cheers as loud as we could in our shelter, while the rain passed. On Thursday after coming back from our one day break we enjoyed doing our low ropes course. We got to climb across a giant log and walk along a tightrope. After that we went to our jewelry making class and the campers and counselor made some amazing bracelets! We then ended our day with our first late night!  We got to go on a scavenger hunt for our missing counselor and make oceans!  We also got to act like sea creatures and play under the sea themed games!  We ended our late night off by eating some amazing food and cheering all the way on the bus home.  We had such a great week and we’re looking forward to the next one!

Group 7 Blog-Week 1B

The Golden Guppies had a glorious second week together at Camp Yomi! We started our week off with a camp favorite, the flying squirrel. Our campers soared high and wide and truly showcased all their camp spirit cheering their fellow group mates on. On Tuesday we swam into the start of Instructional swim and it became clear that we really do have amazing little guppies in the water. Group 6 Blog-Week 1B

For their second week of camp the Jolly Jellyfish did even more new activities! We started off the week with basketball where we learned the fundamentals of passing and dribbling. With our skills sharpened, we can’t wait to play again next week. On Tuesday the Jolly Jellyfish had their very first arts and crafts session. Using oil pastels we drew scenery of nature and everyone had so many great ideas! From pigeons to trees to birds, there was so much to draw and endless possibilities! July 4th made us miss one day of camp but gave us so many stories to share on Thursday. Many of us celebrated with family and watched the fireworks live! On Thursday,  we took so many cool and silly photos during our scavenger hunt in Photography. Using digital cameras we captured birds eye and worm’s eye views of our friends, trees, buildings, and sneakily captured some counselors off guard! Our Thursday was jam packed as we had our very first Late Night and got to have an extra free swim that was arguably the most fun so far.  We also got to make oceans and play undersea baseball! On Friday, we got to celebrate Shabbat with the entire camp!  We had so much fun this week and we’re looking forward to the next one!

The Shining Stars were glowing so bright as we zoomed into this week at camp! On Monday, we put our wings on and went on a fierce pollen hunt trying to catch as many pom-poms on the ground. We started off at Starter Golf, where we learned how to hit the bullseye and then cooled down in the pool where we started learning how to swim! We brought out our amazing musical talents at Music with Nelson and later we watched ourselves “disappear” into the background during Filmmaking with the cool green screen. On Tuesday, we got to make our own paper plate birds and practice hitting the ball in Tennis. We had a fun filled rest of the day when we learned the rules of Ga-Ga and tried out the exciting low ropes course. On Thursday we kicked off the day with Ceramics, where we made adorable turtles. We then had a blast jumping on the trampoline in gymnastics. It was a very special night on Thursday as we got to stay up at camp and have extra time at swim, fly our very own kites, and zoom to the moon and back in the outer space obstacle course! Friday was so exciting because we got to have a camp-wide Shabbat and we had so much fun jamming away to the Shabbatones. We cannot wait to see what fun next week brings!

On Tuesday, Group 1 had Pop Fit Kids, where we got to show off our jumping and running skills. At Ceramics, we made beautiful pinch pot turtles and then got to decorate them so that they will be a shiny green! When we got back to camp after the Fourth of July, Group 1 had an action packed day on Thursday. We started the day by learning how to hit the target at golf and then we had fun decorating star cookies with lots of frosting at Cooking! The incredible “Up in the Air” late night in Unit K began with an exciting third swim after snack! Then, the Happy Hot Air Balloons made kites and participated in an outer space obstacle course before eating a delicious dinner. On Friday, we had a very special Shabbat with the whole camp! Everyone enjoyed hearing their favorite Shabbat songs performed by the Shabbatones. We are so excited for what fun next week has to bring!

B5 Blog Week 4

The Meteorites beat the clouds this week and despite some rainy days had an amazing time! We started off the week with some indoor electives including floor hockey and improv to test our competitive skills and laugh a little. Since our first two days were a bit rained out, we had a great time in the shelter with some group activities and games. When we had another rainy day on Wednesday, we decided to head up to Dave and Busters and play some games together instead of letting the rain get us down! The Meteorites made the absolutely best of our rainy days and made it to our first Theme Day and celebrated our Mad Scientist Day with some funky costumes, a science show, and some DIY slime time and Jeopardy fun! We wrapped up the week with some great Shabbat songs, Filmmaking around the camp, and an intense game of baseball to finish. We all had a blast this week and can’t wait to continue our camp fun on Monday!

Have you ever wondered what it is like to ride a bus to camp? You should ask one of the buses that recently won bus of the week. Bus of the week can be earned for many different reasons, some of which include: being spirited, being organized, having fun, being friendly, and inclusive. Our “spies” ride the buses each week looking out for all of these different things. On Fridays at dismissal it is tradition that Yomi Bear appears at camp and helps announce the bus of the week winners. If your camper’s bus wins Bus of the Week, make sure to congratulate them – it’s a big deal in our world!

B4 Blog Week 2

The third week of camp kicked off with an intense but fun game of ultimate frisbee which the kids put a lot of energy and excitement to the game. Afterwards we had baseball, it was a match where kids and counselors excelled at bat. This was also the second week of majors which the kids enjoyed. On Tuesday we had picture day, which took full advantage of and showed their large smiles while “cheesing” to the flash of cameras. On Wednesday, the group had archery first period, where they improved their skills of reloading and shooting an arrow from the quiver, in second period the group had pioneering; this unique experience was a teaching moment for the kids to use games to teach them important skills in communication, accommodating to different ideas, and teamwork in complicated situations. Because the pool was drained near the end of the day, the kids took to running into the sprinklers (while trying to pull counselors toward the cold water), and even started playing touch football. On Thursday we all left to camp Piemere where we enjoyed dance classes, swimming in the lake, tennis, and rope courses. On Friday we enjoyed the water rides an t camel-beach. Overall; the kids grew closer together and enjoyed every moment to the fullest.

B3 Blog Week 4

This week at camp did not start the way we anticipated. Heavy clouds emerged and tried to ruin our week of fun. However, we did not let that stop us! Instead we took whatever Mother Nature handed to us and made the best of it. We began the week with an electrifying floor hockey tournament. Campers were divided into four teams and faced off head to head to see which team would come out on top. The championship match came down to penalty shots, and team 1 came out victorious by out scoring team 3 by one point! On Tuesday, B3 made there way to jewelry making, where we made extravagant necklaces or bracelets. Afterwards, we headed over to soccer where the boys of B3 got the opportunity to improve the skills. The next day, the weather was too much to handle at camp so, the staff of Yomi Seniors surprised all the campers and took them to Dave & Buster’s! We had a blast playing games such as Mario Kart and skee ball. The next day, was our first Theme day of the summer, Mad Scientist day. Many dressed up as the favorite mad scientist or experiment and enjoyed an amazing science performance. Afterwards, campers got the opportunity to make their own slime to take home. Even though the weather was not the best this week, we still managed to have a great time at camp. Can’t wait to see what is in store for B3 and the rest of Yomi Seniors next week!

B2 Blog Week 4

Despite not such great weather, Group B2 enjoyed yet another amazing week at camp. Since our schedule was re-arranged due to the rain, the group participated in indoor activities like Krav Maga, Floor Hockey, and Improv. Floor Hockey was intense with campers turning on their friendly competitive and Krav Maga was an outlet for the group to express their energy in a focused manner. Swim continues to be one of the highlights of the camp week for the Pterodactyl group as campers immersed themselves in volleyball and general pool shenanigans with the counselors ever so lively.
On Thursday, it was the mad scientist theme day and for many counselors and campers, scientist attire such as lab coats, goggles, makeup and hair dye was the norm for the entire day. Additionally, the group got to participate in a science lesson with a professional which got the campers very enthusiastic about how cool science can be. Overall, it was a week of fun and games for B2 and the campers added countless, memorable experiences to their summer at Yomi Seniors!

B1 Blog Week 4

Hello once again B1 Omegaladons!

We started off this week with a partially rainy day on Monday. Yomi Seniors held indoor/in shelter electives during the morning to keep campers dry. By lunchtime, we were lucky enough to have clear skies so we all hopped in the pool for free swim before heading back to the city. On Tuesday, we started off our day with soccer, followed by a coding lesson. We all then headed to the pool for instructional swim. For lunch we had chicken nuggets, which the campers ate happily. After lunch we had our minors, followed by free swim once again. Unfortunately on Wednesday it rained once again, so we once again had indoor/ in shelter electives. We had an early lunch of pizza, then we all got on our buses for a fun time at Dave and Buster’s! Thursday was our first official theme day of Mad Scientist! We all gathered for our themed activities, such as science Jeopardy. After instructional swim we had lunch, followed by archery and Basketball. Finally we wrapped up the day with free swim.

Summer with B1 has been incredible, I am always looking forward to the next day with campers!

G3 Blog Week 4

This week G3 was really great with adjusting to weather. They had so much fun with the activities this week such as pop fit, having a garden lesson in the kitchen, baseball and more. The highlight of their week by far was going to Dave and Buster’s. The trip went off without a hitch because the girls listened, communicated and stayed with their buddies. They made this week run so smoothly due to their cooperation and adaptability and we couldn’t be more proud of them.

G2 Blog Week 4

Yet another successful week! One would think that rain would dampen the mood for camp, but not for our dinos! On Monday, even in the pouring rain, these dinos had fun at their respective pseudo-minors. They got to choose between: Improv, Krav Maga, and floor hockey. Then, on Tuesday Zumba became a viable option. After these pseudo-majors, the dinos participated in yet another thrilling game of pool volleyball. Shout out to our counselors who tried their very best despite aiming the ball towards the wrong block! Wednesday was the highlight of the week. Although we did not have an overnight this week, we did get to go on a trip to Dave and Busters. Nothing beats playing some awesome games inside on a rainy day! There were some fan favorites like Typhoon, the almost roller coaster, the claw machine in which many campers and counselors surprisingly won some cute prizes, Mario Kart, and indoor basketball! What a fun time we had! Looks like we’re all going to celebrate our next birthday(s) at Dave and Busters! Later on in the week on Thursday was our first theme day of camp: Mad Scientist Day! The camp was suddenly flooded with so many PhD having lab coat cladded individuals! To set the theme for the day, Yomi Seniors got to watch a wonderful science show in which the entertainer poured dry ice bubbles onto our heads. Dry ice is so cool! We also got to make some colorful slimeeeeeee. Last but not least, on Friday, we finished our wonderful week with Shabbat. So proud of the counselors who won COW! Until next time!

Week 1B Blog – Group 28

It’s been a busy week for Group 28, the Railroad Runners! On Monday, we made beautiful self-portraits in arts and crafts before swimming in the nice cool pool. We then headed off to the various Yomi-lectives, a camper favorite. Tuesday marked the first day of instructional swim, and we have quickly gotten into the groove and are enjoying our swim lessons. The afternoon was interesting as an unexpected thunderstorm led to a change plans away from the high ropes. Thankfully, Group 28 took this change in stride and helped keep the unit’s energy alive by drawing pictures, perfecting lanyard stitches, and most importantly cheering as loudly as we can. We took a break for the Fourth of July but came back on Thursday with renewed spirits to play sand Newcomb in the morning, swim throughout the day, learn how to be professional actors and actresses in filmmaking, and end the day at their Yomi-lectives. As we approach the end of the week, we are excited about weekly Shabbat and camper awards. It’s been a busy week, but the Railroad Runners are always ready to go with a smile on their faces! Stay tuned for next week’s blog!

The Liberty Ballers had a great second week of camp, starting with Krav Maga and Soccer. Group 27 began instructional swim, along with all of Unit 3. And during free swim some splashed their way to the water slide. In the kitchen, we whipped together red, white, and blue yogurt parfaits to celebrate the 4th of July. Group 27 learned how hit balls on the Tennis court, and in the gaga pit. We flipped our way through gymnastics and made turtles in Ceramics. We are so excited to see what next week brings the Liberty Ballers.

Week 1B Blog – Group 25

Wow! What an awesome week at Camp Yomi Group 25 has had! On Monday, we started off the week right with some relaxing yoga first thing in the morning. From there, we jumped straight into free swim. After lunch, the kids played a mean game of ga-ga then headed straight to lice checks. We were relieved to discover that everyone was louse free! We finished off the day with Yomi-lectives where the campers got to focus on what they love the most. Tuesday began with the ever-delightful circus arts. It was incredible! After watching the kids effortlessly balance feathers on their fingers (and some even on their noses), I think we’re ready for Cirque du Soleil. After this we had out first ever (drumroll please…) instructional swim! From tadpoles to dolphins, all of the kids thrived! We followed this up with an intense game of baseball. Despite the heat, each camper batted and caught like they were Babe Ruth. After that, we were lucky to have an great free swim period before a dramatic thunderstorm began. We were thrown into a bit of chaos by the tumultuous weather but the campers followed directions super well and we made the best of a difficult situation. We quickly learned that there’s nothing a good game of quackadilioso can’t fix! After a refreshing Fourth of July, the campers arrived at Yomi ready to dive right into painting and drawing where they designed their very own symmetrical robots. The imaginary battles that ensued were epic to say the least. After all the drawing excitement, we had our second instructional swim in which the campers really began to get the hang of the lifeguards’ lessons. Then came a quick lunch break followed by some awesome basketball shooting. The kids did layups like it was the NBA! Free swim was especially exciting on Thursday because it was the first day that the slide was open. Those campers with red bracelets got to zoom down the slide, while those of us in the swim block cheered them on and continued to play our usual games. Then came Yomi-lectives! The kids further honed their hobbies and passions. On Friday, all of camp Yomi Unit 3 gathered for a wonderful Shabbat featuring live music and (of course) more snacks! We ended the week with a free swim period. We were sad to see each other go for the weekend, but couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming week!

It has been such a hot summer so far and we can’t wait to dive into even more summer fun at the pool! We started instructional swim this week and look forward to helping your camper build on their skills in the coming weeks.

Just as a reminder, each day campers have a free and instructional swim period. Campers receive swim instruction from American Red Cross Certified lifeguards and instructors. After each camper is evaluated on their swim skills, they are placed into their appropriate swim groups with respective bracelet color.

The swim levels are:

Blue: Wader, Splasher, and Guppy

Orange: Tadpole, Minnow, and Goldfish

Red: Catfish, Dolphin, Marlin, Barracuda, Shark, and Killer Whale

Week 1B Blog – Group 24

Hey group 24!!! Us campers and counselors had a terrific first (almost full) week at camp Yomi this week. We started of the week calmly with some painting and drawing where all the campers drew some really cool robots. After swim, we had a silly and fun time at circus arts and ended off the day with yomi-lectives. On Tuesday, we started off strong with lacrosse where everyone showed off their amazing skills of throwing and catching the ball. We moved onto the climbing tower, the most exciting activity by far. We hoped to end off the day with some games of tennis and soccer, but the rain unfortunately stopped us. After our day off for the Fourth of July, we resumed camp with Zumba, which was so exciting and fun for all the campers and counselors as well. We later experienced an incredible adventure in nature, and then ended off the day with yomi-lectives once again. Unfortunately because of the rain on Friday we weren’t able to spend much time at the campgrounds as we hoped to, but we still had a great time nonetheless as we had a camp wide Shabbat! We can’t wait for even more fun next week. That’s all for now, Empire State Timbs signing off!!

Week 1B Blog – Group 23

Group 23’s second week of Camp was full of fun and spirit!  Throughout the week we kept up the energy by doing cheers and participating in exciting activities.  We began our instructional swim sessions, learning new strokes and skills that we could use during free swim.  We then played competitive games of soccer, gaga, and baseball, cheering on our teammates and doing our best.  Even though a thunderstorm swept Camp right before the holiday, we stayed in our unit shelter and drew picture books and learned new lanyard stitches.  We picked the week right back up in LEGO robotics, where we learned how to code sequences to control our robots’ actions.  We continued with Yomi-lectives and cheer offs, and although our week ended in rain, Group 23 knew just how to keep up our enthusiasm and continue the fun.  We hope everyone has had a great Fourth of July as we look forward to our upcoming parent night!

Week 1B Blog – Group 22

It has been an amazing week filled with fun and laughter for our group 22 superstars! We kicked it off on Monday with a rousing game of baseball with so many homeruns we thought we were at a Yankee game! From there, we jumped right into free swim, of which we had two periods and double time to play Sharks And Minnows and Stuck In The Mud. We then made our way to jewelry making, where we honored Independence Day by creating beautiful red, white, and blue jewelry. We finished the day with an hour of Yomi-lectives, where the kids explored their passions and let their talents shine. We had a sweet start to Tuesday, which we happily shared with our friends at Tova during cooking. Afterwards, we had our first instructional swim, which was super exciting and rewarding. We can see improvement already! We continued the day with coding, where our crafty campers defeated 12 levels of Minecraft coding with ease. After free swim, we had a relaxing period of Krav Maga, where the kids handled the foreboding storm clouds wonderfully. Although we were caught in a storm towards the end of the period, there’s nothing like a great game of Follow The Leader to make a rainy day feel bright. We hope you had a lovely 4th of July off, which we followed up with a relaxing morning in the garden tasting mint and learning about herbs and spices on Thursday. We then headed off to another productive instructional swim period, where we worked on our strokes and even had time for games after the lesson. We were able to unwind after the excitement of swim and lunch with a period of yoga, where we learned all sorts of cool poses like downward dog and tree. Free swim brought the opening of the slide and a very fun game of freeze tag. With tons of rain in the cards for Friday, we remained positive and had tons of fun playing indoor games and activities until it subsided. We continued our normal scheduled Shabbat service, where we had a blast singing our hearts out and left camp with yet another fantastic week behind us, and looking forward to the amazing weeks to come.

Group 34 Blog

Week Six
Group 34 enjoyed yet another jam-packed week filled with exciting activities and new experiences! Beginning our week off, the campers enjoyed another period of Sports Club, this week’s sport was Basketball, which many of them were a fan of! The campers played several rounds of knock-out while also running drills, making their time on the court both fun and very fast-paced! On Tuesday, the campers enjoyed another period of Baseball, where they followed the directions of their coach and counselors to play a couple of intense innings. It was evident that the campers used the skills that they’ve learned throughout the summer to their advantage, with many of them scoring home-runs for their team! On Wednesday, we had our second Carnival Day of the summer. The campers spent their day visiting booths such as Pin the Tail, Cheetah Race, Face Paint, Glitter Tattoos, a Safari Photo-Booth, and other Safari-themed activities. Afterwards, the campers made their way to the other side of camp, where they enjoyed Carnival rides such as a disco-bouncy castle and a dunk-tank! Cotton candy, popcorn, and flavored ice-cones were offered as well! On Thursday, group 34 enjoyed another period of Newcomb/Volleyball,  where the campers enjoyed a different version of Newcomb known as Revenge Newcomb, which is when the person from the opposing team gets a player out, that player who gets out can come back into the game as soon as the opposing player gets out. Ending the second to last week of camp, we couldn’t be more excited to see how our last week of camp will be spent! We wish you and your family an amazing weekend.

Week Five
This week, Group 34 spent their 6th week at camp enjoying numerous activities and events that left the campers wanting more, leaving them excited for their next week at camp! On Monday, the campers enjoyed playing Lacrosse for the first time this summer. Being introduced to the exciting, fast-paced sport of Lacrosse meant being open to new experiences and challenges, which every camper handled amazingly well! On Tuesday, the campers enjoyed Baseball, a sport they’ve become to know and really love throughout this summer. On Wednesday, we had our annual Yomi Idol! The campers had numerous practices leading up to Yomi Idol, which involved, with the help of us (their counselors!), the opportunity to choreograph a dance routine to the song, Getcha’ Head in the Game, from the movie, High School Musical! Every camper was ecstatic to have a role in deciding how their dance would be performed on the day of Yomi Idol, and each camper handled the pressure of performing in front of their entire Unit very well, placing in 3rd overall! On Thursday, the campers enjoyed another opportunity at Lego Robotics, where they used computer coding to program a robot to move forward and backward, display certain sounds, such as a dog barking, and other interesting programming techniques. On Friday, with the return of the campers who hadn’t stayed for the Unit 4 Overnight on Thursday, were welcomed back with a game of Silent Disco! This involved campers and counselors all wearing headphones that played different channels of songs, displaying a shelter filled with laughter, joy and a whole lot of dancing! We couldn’t be more excited for week 7 to begin, and we wish you and your family an amazing weekend.

Week Four
As the amazing Ringleaders start reaching towards the end of camp, this week in particular was quite interesting. Despite all of the weather changes, group 34 has managed to still bring all of their energy to camp. Group 35 had an amazing time during sports club which was tennis this week. Everyone was practicing their volleys and aces. Group 34 had their own World Cup at camp yomi at soccer. The scores were tied up for 3 minutes and ended in an spectacular 8-8. Floor hockey was very interesting with all campers versus their counselors and even the instructor. Final score was 10-6 with the campers taking the victory. The rainy days usually bring people down but with group 34 was just another day at camp with having indoor activities such as doing lanyard, hosting a battleship competition and drawing and coloring. And finally this week wacky Wednesday theme was yomi bear’s birthday bash. We starting off with going to a hotel for the wacky Wednesday entertainer who were Djs. They played music that the campers absolutely adored. Everyone was dancing and having a good time. Than a limbo line started and everyone began to go under. Yomi bear finally made an appearance at his birthday bash. He even hopped onto the limbo line and did a round for all his friends. Group 34 has made the most for this week at camp.

Newsletter: Bus of the Week!

Week Three
This week, Group 34 enjoyed another week at camp filled with awesome and exciting activities, both new and old! On Monday, the campers tried their hand at Tennis for the first time this summer! The campers took turns volleying tennis balls over the net while running drills at high-speed, never letting up, even when things got difficult. Each camper pushed themselves to the best of their abilities, encouraging their friends along the way! On Tuesday, the campers begun their day with Krav Maga. Originating in Israel, Krav Maga is a style of military self-defense that utilizes techniques such as boxing, wrestling, judo, and karate. Although this activity required a great deal of physical contact, the campers respected one another’s boundaries and had a fun, energetic time while doing so. On Wednesday, the campers participated in another Wacky Wednesday! This week’s theme was Carnival Day, which consisted of booths, rides, and concession stands that had carnival foods such as popcorn, cotton candy and snow cones! While the food was definitely a fan-favorite among the campers, the sack races and face-paint were just a few of the memorable activities Carnival Day had to offer. On Thursday, the campers tried another new activity, Kickball! These campers combined their skills from Soccer and Baseball to play Kickball to the best of their abilities, making for an all-around awesome time. This week was spent participating in new and exciting activities, and we’re hoping that next week outshines the amount of fun that this week had to offer. We wish you and your family an amazing weekend!

Week Two
group 34 has successfully went through the most amazing activities such as riding the famous zip line camp Yomi has to offer. All of the campers were superstars during baseball with an amazing final score 7-7. Floor hockey has now become one of the most hyper and very active game group 34 has faced yet. The games are at high paste and the stakes are up for both the yellow and red team. Frisbees was very relaxing with all the campers and counselors playing catch and creating games for the perfect catch. Also we cannot forget about swim. Group 34 is one of the best teams when it comes to pool beach ball. The competition is up and the adrenaline is pumping for both poolside teams. And finally, the biggest day this week has offered was our first wacky Wednesday. The theme was story book day. Each camper may dress up as their favorite story book character for any of their favorite novels. We have seen many harry potters , the cat in the hat, and Disney princesses and queens.

Starting our week off right, Monday morning began with Jewelery-Making, where campers weaved 4th of July themed bracelets and necklaces. Taking Wednesday off for 4th of July, we came back to camp on Thursday full of energy and excitement. After lunch, Group 34 enjoyed their first encounter with Circus-Arts! Group 34 had an awesome, fun-filled first week! Starting our week off, on Wednesday group 34 enjoyed the ins and outs of filming-making by learning how to use a green screen. Each camper then had the opportunity to use the green screen to mime an activity in their own way, making for some very funny performances! We then set off for instructional swim, where our campers were swim tested. Through the rain splattered water, each camper swam very well, showcasing their amazing swimming capabilities. We finished the day off with an energetic game of Gaga, where our campers played several rounds, displaying their competitive nature. They were so engrossed in their game that they didn’t even realize that it was time to go! Time goes by quickly at camp, all because of the fun games and activities we have here at camp Yomi. On Thursday, our campers tested their aim at archery with each camper performing impressively well, following all of the instructions and safety measures. They finished the day off with a resounding soccer scrimmage, both teams displaying great sportsmanship and teamwork. As the week draws to a close, we couldn’t be more excited to begin the next one! We wish you and your families a great weekend.

We have created and cherished a countless number of great times and memories that will last a lifetime!

Week Five
This week was packed with so many awesome activities, and some not so awesome rain, but we still managed to have fun. On Monday, the Soaring Falcons got to help paint the brand new mural on the arts and crafts building. Our brightly painted fruits and vegetables will live on forever in Yomi history! On Tuesday, we had music with Nelson, where we all became incredible songwriters. Then we had a practice session for our upcoming performance of This Is Me. The group worked so well together that the next day we won the Yomi Bear award for our super spirit! On Thursday we got to experience our second overnight, and once again we missed some of our friends who got to sleep in their nice warm beds. We watched Coco, ate s’mores, and had a silent disco! We loved the silent disco so much that we had another one for everyone on Friday!

Week Four

Group 15 Blog, Week 1

This week group 15, the “Valiant Voyagers,” traveled around camp to some awesome activities! We started our week off with gardening, where we learned about plants and vegetables like celery and onions. Then we flew around on the flying squirrel and had a blast! Charles and Max went super high and Leila was able to face her fear of heights and get on as well; she ended up having so much fun! Next we made our way to painting and drawing after lunch and made drawings of what’s above and below ground. We drew roots, trees, and lava! We had campers like Lydea who were great at helping clean up every time we were at our table. Throughout the week we splashed around in the pool. Aiden, Madeline, and Nora played with beach balls and were thrilled by the refreshing water at the end of each hot day. At soccer, Syler, Jacob, and Eric played hard and scored impressive goals and even made stupendous saves. Sienna and Adam helped demonstrate at Circus arts; Adam did great on the Chinese yo-yo; and Sienna balanced a spinning plate on a stick with one foot up! Later at archery, our very own Isabella scored a bullseye! Zumba was a blast and Allison impressed us all with her great moves. At nature, Maya helped find a lot of bugs and seeds! We had a great time this week at Camp Yomi and we cannot wait until next week!

Group 16 Blog, Week 1

The first week of camp was a load of fun for Group 16, the “Superstar Sailors”! Getting into the swing of things and getting to know each other was easy-peasy for superstars like us. First, we ran our way over to soccer where we played our hearts out in a competitive match; which ended in two swift goals from the red jersey team. Next up, we sat down to enjoy a delicious shabbat feast of grape juice and challah while listening to songs performed on stage. Shortly thereafter, we hopped and bopped our way over to pop fit kids, where we mastered red light green light one two three and fit fit run (duck duck goose). After lunch we dribbled our way over to basketball, and made buckets with coach Dion; plus, we picked up a few tips and tricks along the way. Finally, to top off a hot day, we jumped into the pool with a big refreshing splash, where we played all sorts of games with the counselors while taking our swim tests to find out what bracelet color we were. Sadly, week one is over, but we can’t wait to return well-rested and ready for all the excitement in week two!

Group 14 Blog, Week 1

The Extraordinary Explorers launched into the first week of camp with enormous enthusiasm. The first day was fun packed with lots of games, including many that helped us get to know all of Group 14s awesome new friends! One of them was the fun name game where all of the campers did a dance and said their names, but it was also challenging because you not only had to repeat and remember all the names of every camper in the group! This fun game, with just a touch of difficulty, made sure that counselors and kids alike learned each other’s names in no time. Next, we had a fun first couple of activates, Nature and Improv.
