Group 17 Blog, Week 4

The Courageous Cruisers rode into this sunny and rainy week with great enthusiasm. On Monday we enjoyed playing in Lego Robots and programming super cool commands. We were able to move them, make them dance and even have robot fights! On Tuesday we enjoyed our calming poses at Yoga. We stretched our hamstrings and became animals and objects like dogs, cats and even trees. On Wednesday it was Yomi Bear’s Birthday but because of the rain, our normal planned activities were cancelled. “Oh no! The day’s ruined!” we thought, but Yomi Bear had a huge party with all of camp at a hotel! We danced, sang along to the lastest hit songs, and played games with the entire camp yomi family. On Thursday we enjoyed playing lacrosse and learned how to shoot properly! Friday was Israeli Day and we played many games including a dunk tank with counselors thanks to the help of all the staff members from Israel. The Courageous Cruisers had a magnificent time and can’t wait for next week!

Have you ever wondered what it is like to ride a bus to camp? You should ask one of the buses that recently won bus of the week. Bus of the week can be earned for many different reasons, some of which include: being spirited, being organized, having fun, being friendly, and inclusive. Our “spies” ride the buses each week looking out for all of these different things. On Fridays at dismissal it is tradition that Yomi Bear appears at camp and helps announce the bus of the week winners. If your camper’s bus wins Bus of the Week, make sure to congratulate them – it’s a big deal in our world!

Group 13 Blog, Week 4

The jazzy jetsetters jumped into week 4 with a bang. On Monday our group didn’t let the rain get in our way of the fun. We took a field trip to the movies and saw Coosco go on his amazing journey in the Emperors New Groove. On Tuesday the group had all sorts of fun at volleyball, got to hone our inner artistic skills at painting and drawing and became NBA all – stars at basketball. The rain also tried to ruin Wacky Wednesday but of course nothing could stop group 13. We got to make our very own bow ties and ties and took fun pictures with our new clothes. We then hopped on the buses for a field trip to our very own dance party! Thursday was a very productive day on our way to securing a yomi idol victory next week! We started practicing our very special dance to the Drake and Josh theme song “found a way”; we also got to do our hobby hour which is our time to choose our favorite activities. Shabbat was a great way to end the week. We sang songs and drank grapefruit juice. We even got to participate in Israeli day which is our time to learn about Israeli culture. Till next week group 13. Stay jazzy.

Group 18 Blog, Week 4

The frequent flyers had another eventful week! As disappointing as it is to have it rain at camp, every single camper was a trooper and made it one of the best weeks of all. On Monday we were able to chill out and watch the Emperors New Groove to escape the rain and were still even able to swim in the afternoon. On Wacky Wednesday, we all celebrated Yomi Bear’s birthday. All the campers danced their hearts out with the Wacky Wednesday entertainer and sat back and enjoyed a story read by one of the camp admin. On Thursday the sun finally came out again and we were able to enjoy a regular day at camp. All the kids had fun at their individual hobby hours and we were able to go to lego robotics (a group 18 favorite). All the kids focused very well and made beautiful mosaics in arts and crafts. This was an amazing week and it is all thanks to the amazing kids of group 18!

Group 16 Blog, Week 4

Week 4 started with a movie, movie The Emperor’s New Groove, which group 16 enjoyed very much! After the clouds cleared we took advantage of the sunshine and proceeded to take a dip in the pool. Tuesday, Group 16 improved upon our photography skills by learning the differences between a worm’s-eye view and a bird’s-eye view. Later we showed our sporty side in an intense game of volleyball. Campers felt confident in their ability and took on the counselors in a close match. On Wednesday the Superstar Sailors celebrated Yomi Bear’s birthday with a huge dance party. We dressed up in festive attire and took pleasure in being in each other’s company. Thursday we had another opportunity to practice our circus arts skills. Some of us were even asked to demonstrate our ribbon twirling and balancing acts. Ending the week, Group 16 practiced for the upcoming Yomi Idol competition. We look forward to competing but, more importantly, to having fun!

Group 14 Blog, Week 4

Despite all the rain, group 14 had an extraordinary week! On Monday we headed over to the hotel to watch The Emperors New Grove.  We all sat and watched in anticipation waiting to see what would happen to Cusco next! On Tuesday we were overjoyed to see sunny skies — especially for our late night! We started our day at nature, where we got to see a real robins’ egg and played with worms! Next we headed to kickball and then soccer! After that we had time to chill out at photography where we decorated frames for future photographs we would take home. Since it was late night, we had swim 3 periods in a row! After our third swim, we played lots of fun games; during the scavenger hunt we got stamps from different countries for our passports after we found a clue! Wednesday, Yomi Bears birthday, was a total blast! Again, the rain couldn’t ruin our day, so we headed to the hotel. We even listed to music and danced in our seats on the way! When we arrived, the party was just getting started. Units K, 1, and 2 all danced and sang together with a live entertainer! On Thursday, we made beautiful bracelets, necklaces, and keychains! Then we had our very first Yomi Idol practice! We learned and practiced our skills at tennis- loudly cheering each other on! Group 14 agreed, Friday came way too fast this week! We happily enjoyed Israel Day and all its festivities! Shabbat, as always, was lively and fun. It was such a great way to end a great week. We wish you all a great weekend and can’t wait for Monday!

Group 21 Blog, Week 4

Wow what a wonderful week at Camp Yomi! Since it was really rainy on Monday, we had to improvise! The terrific travelers traveled to the theater and watched an awesome movie! After our trip to the theater, we made the journey back to camp and with extreme luck, the weather cleared up and we got to go  swimming! On Tuesday the weather was nice and we started our day off with some great games of gaga! After gaga, the terrific travelers took a trip to the fun field and played baseball! Baseball was a home run! All of the terrific travelers  got on base! When we got out of baseball, we went down to photography and took our artsy pictures! After photography ended we got in our ninja mentality and conquered the low ropes course! Soon after, the terrific travelers rushed to the field and played some super fun games of soccer! Soccer was amazing! Once again, all of our talented travelers showed off their super sweet skills! After soccer, we rushed to the cool pool and finished our day off with some splashing fun! Wednesday was extra wacky this week! The rain was trying to stop us from having another awesome day at camp, BUT WE SAID NO! Wednesday was Yomi Bear’s birthday party! We got invited to his birthday party, so we had to get ready! We spent our morning dressing up, until it was time! We went to his party at the hotel and had loads of fun! On Thursday, we started our day off with so intense lacrosse! After that, we all broke off into to our hobby hour! When we met back up, we headed over to the great garden and got digging! All that gardening made us hot, so we headed to the lovely pool and took a dip! On Friday, frisbee was the first fun activity! We flung flying frisbees across the meadow and then headed to our Yomi Idol rehearsal! That was a blast! After we practiced, we celebrated Israel Day at camp! Then we sung some fun songs at shabbat! We so look forward to what next week brings!

Despite the wacky weather over the past week, the World Wanderers joyfully jumped into all that Camp Yomi had in store. We started our week off right with the hilarious movie, Emperors New Groove. The excitement did not stop there, however, as we flew into our fantastic late night. We served in tennis and played catch in lacrosse. Following our terrific triple swim periods, we participated in so many creative late night activities. We traveled around the world to India, Australia & Egypt in just one day! We created Rangoli artwork in India, played kangaroo potato sack races in Australia and ran relay races past mummies in Egypt. Our late night ended with a massive Unit 2 dinner, where we shared lots of hugs and laughter. On Yomi Bears Birthday (Wacky Wednesday) we created playful photo booth props, dressed our counselors into lovely presents and strutted our stuff down the party runway. Our week ended with many more eventful activities such as Ceramics, where we made silly sharks and in Cooking where we made scrumptious chocolate covered pretzels. Before we knew it, our camp week came to an end. (Time flies when you’re having fun). We can’t wait for the next!

Despite all that rain, the Silly Sightseers had a blast this week! Marvelous Monday started with extremely exciting shelter games. Terrific Tuesday rolled around and The Silly Sightseers were energy filled. We participated in amazing activities all day. Starting with frisbee, the campers got to show off how far they can launch the frisbees. It was a relaxing way to start the cool morning.

Group 5 Blog – Week 4

Group 5 had a wonderful week at camp from participating in a heated baseball game to enjoying a relaxing yoga session. On Monday, the Pufferfish watched The Emperor’s New Groove and followed the plot with every twist and turn.
On Tuesday, the puffer fish enjoyed traveling through Israel during Pioneering. Wacky Wednesday was the long awaited Yomi Bear’s birthday bash! For the occasion, the Poppin Pufferfish decorated party hats that they then wore to the birthday bash. At Yomi bear’s party, group five enjoyed dancing to their favorite songs and listening to Ivy read wacky Wednesday by Dr. Seuss.  On Thursday, the group made beaded bracelets during jewelry.  After, they had a blast playing with beach balls during free swim! Shabbat on Friday was, as usual, a great way to end the week.
We have been practicing our dance to under the sea and cannot wait to show it off at Yomi idol next week!

Group 8 Blog – Week 4

The Super Starfish enjoyed another week bubbling with laughter and excitement! The downcast weather couldn’t dampen our spirits! On Monday, when it started to rain, we got to take a special trip to a nearby hotel to watch the hilarious Disney classic Emperor’s New Groove before returning to camp to play some exhilarating games like “Fishy, Fishy, Cross My Ocean” during Free Swim. The next day, the group made some spectacular collages with variously shaped and colored material before scoring major goals against each other in games to practice tennis. Despite the rainfall on Wednesday, the Super Starfish helped make Yomi Bear’s Birthday Bash the best he’s ever had with some vibrantly decorated party hats and cards before proceeding to the hotel to have a dance party, complete with games of freeze dance and the Cotton Eye Joe, along with a very special storybook (Wacky Wednesday by Dr. Seuss) read by Ivy! Next, Group 8 began practicing their insanely cool dance moves for Yomi Idol (we are rocking to “Goofy Goobers” from the Spongebob movie) before making some inventive posters about the landscape of Israel in Jewish Culture. We ended the week with a big celebration for Israel Day and a very lively Shabbat! We had such a great time this week and can’t wait to continue the fun next week! Have a wonderful weekend!

Group 9 Blog – Week 4

This week’s weather may have been a downer, but group 9’s spirit has never been more up! We started off the week with a movie, The Emperor’s New Groove. On Tuesday, the weather cleared up and we were back to our regular schedule. Our campers learned how to play different instruments in Music and made nature collages in Gardening. This week’s Wacky Wednesday theme was Yomi Bear’s Birthday Bash. Even though there was rain, it didn’t stop us from having the best birthday bash ever! Our group made some birthday decorations for our shelter and customized their own party hats. Then we took a bus to the hotel to have an EPIC DANCE PARTY. All of our campers showed off their amazing dance moves and had such a good time. We wrapped our Wacky Wednesday with a special reading of “Wacky Wednesday” by Dr. Seuss. On Thursday the weather cleared up and we were able to work up a sweat by playing soccer. Since Yomi Idol is also coming up (get pumped!), group 9 had their first ever Yomi Idol practice. We then had Jewish music, where all of us learned to sing the Shabbat songs (just in time for Friday Shabbat). Things are looking super exciting next week and the Swimming Sea Dragons are more than ready for Yomi Idol and all the new activities.

Group 10 Blog – Week 4

This week at Camp Yomi was a rainy one, but we all had tons of fun! To start off the week, we got to go indoors to watch The Emperor’s New Groove as a camp family. When we got back to camp, we went to Filmmaking where the kids got to watch some of the recordings they made a few weeks ago. After that, when it got sunny again, we had an awesome time in the pool!

The next day, we stopped by the Yomi garden where we collected different insects that we found and learned about them; after we got to examine them for a little while, we released them back into their natural habitat. We also had Tennis, where the Seahorses learned forehand and volleying! Then we got to learn about the different areas of ancient Israel in Jewish culture, where we drew colorful posters to represent the four directions.

Wacky Wednesday was another rainy day, but we livened it up with an amazing dance party for Yomi Bear’s Birthday Bash! We got to groove to tons of fun music and even made a humongous conga line!

Group 10 has also started practicing their dance for Yomi Idol, where we’re going to perform “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana for all of Unit 1! The Seahorses also got to work on their forward rolls and tuck jumps at gymnastics and make super wacky fish at Outdoor Ceramics.

To end the week, Camp Yomi celebrated Israel Day and Shabbat! We’re all having such a great time in Group 10, and we can’t wait to see what the next weeks have in store.

Week 4 Blog – Group 28

Hello group 28! It’s been another awesome week, we had a few bumps in the road with the weather but we still had so much fun even if we had to change our activity. On Monday morning it was raining a little bit so we stayed inside our unit. We played an awesome game called the moistest and WE WON! We had so much fun and time was flying by. After lunch the rain settled down so we were able to finish our day of activities. We had arts and craft free swim and then our first time at our new yomi electives. Tuesday was really exciting because for the first time this summer we went boating. We also had gymnastics where everyone was having an awesome time. Wednesday was another raining day but that didn’t stop us from having the best wacky Wednesday ever because of course, we couldn’t miss yomi bears birthday bash! So we went to a hotel and we had out activity there it was so much fun we were dancing and jumping around it was perfect. When we got back we were surprised to find out we could go swimming because the rain had died down which all the kids had so much fun at free swim. On Thursday we started the day with ceramics where the kids made snowmen that came out to look amazing. After lunch, we had tennis where we played a match and both teams did so well that we ended up having a tie by the time we had to go to free swim. On Friday we started the day with yomi idol practice, which all the kids were so excited to start practicing. And by the end of the day, we had Shabbat and participated in fun shelter games!

Week 4 Blog – Group 26

Despite the gloomy weather this week, the Terrific Taxi’s had an awesome time at camp. On Monday we got into groups and showed off our coding skills. We then played games and did activities in the shelter. On Tuesday we played a competitive game of soccer and learned about Jewish culture. Yomi bears birthday was on Wednesday so Unit 3 and Unit 4 took the buses to a hotel and had an epic dance party. All the campers were excited to greet Yomi bear and give him a big hug. For the first time all week it didn’t rain on Thursday. We went boating and had a blast capturing rubber ducks in the lake. After that we practiced for Yomi idol then we had a good time splashing in the pool. Although the week ended in rain, the Terrific Taxis had fun singing at Shabbat and playing games in the shelter!

Week 4 Blog – Group 25

Hello, friends and families of group 25! The Happy Hotdogs hurried into another exciting week at Camp Yomi despite the constant showers. We started the week off sheltered in the unit playing “The Mostest” and claiming second place. We then mixed things up from the usual schedule by seeing who could catch the most rubber duckies during boating. This week’s Wacky Wednesday was extremely exciting! We all boarded the busses and headed to the Marriot hotel where we had an EPIC dance party.  This week we bedazzled ourselves with bracelets and necklaces in jewelry making. We also wildly whacked balls at tennis impressing Coach Mango. We can’t wait for more fun to be had and bonds to be made in the weeks to come at Camp Yomi!

Week 4 Blog – Group 24

Hey, Group 24! We can’t believe we’re already halfway done with camp. The weeks have been flying by way too fast! Though the weather this week may have been gloomy, we didn’t let that stop us from having as much fun as we possibly could. We started off our week with photography where everyone took some really cool pictures for the picture frames they had decorated. Although it was raining on Wednesday, we didn’t let that stop us from having a super fun party for Yomi bear’s birthday at a nearby hotel. Everyone was jumping and dancing all around. On Thursday, the campers began practicing for their big Yomi idol performance next week. They seem to love our song choice of “How far I’ll go” from the movie Moana. On Friday we took to Yankee’s Field where we participated in a rousing game of baseball and then later celebrated Shabbat! We hope to have an even better week next week with each other. This is the Empire State Timbs signing off!

Week 4 Blog – Group 23

A week of dreary weather couldn’t stop Group 23 from having fun at Camp! The Subway Surfer’s have been having some really fun events and activities to keep the spirit going.  Although it’s been rainy, we have all been playing games and doing activities in the Unit shelter with other groups.  We played games like The Mostest, where a category such as “the camper with the coolest dance move” is called and the one with the “mostest” wins points for their team (Group 23 came in first place!), and did cheers as loud as we could.  We also celebrated Yomi Bear’s birthday bash by showing off our best moves at a dance party and making him birthday cards.  We also began our Yomi Idol practice — this year, Unit 3’s theme is songs from movies and Group 23’s song is “We’re All in This Together” from High School Musical!  We hope next week will be full of sun and even more energy!

Week 4 Blog – Group 22

Group 22 kicked off the week with shelter games as a storm raged outside. The rain didn’t stop us from having a blast playing the mostest and creating song parodies for Shabbat. We cheered our hearts out, laughing our way through the day until tennis, where we hit balls until the rain returned. After a rousing game of Candy Land in Unit Four, we ran over to a long awaited free swim. Afterwards, we headed off to our new yomi-lectives, where we had a blast learning about our new activities.
On Tuesday we made an exciting decision: our yomi idol song, Mamma Mia! We danced our way through duck duck goose and freeze tag, followed by a spirited instructional swim period learning about everything from flip turns to chicken-airplane-soldier. We flew through Frisbee, and practiced focus and strength during Krav Maga to round out another perfect day.
On Wednesday we were greeted by more thunderstorms, but that didn’t stop us from having an incredible dance party to celebrate Yomi Bear’s birthday bash. We learned some new dances like the Cha Cha Slide and practiced our favorites like the Limbo. We said “hi” to Yomi Bear before heading back to camp, where our shelter became our runway in another fantastic game of the mostest.
Thursday began with a productive yomi idol practice and some terrific tennis for our spectacular sports club participants. The pool felt extra refreshing after somersaulting and leapfrogging in gymnastics. The day wound down with another hour and a half of yomi-lectives, where we did everything from coding and cooking to photography filmmaking.
We were especially excited for Friday because we had boating, which had been looking forward to all week. We had a blast in the paddleboats, and the fun continued in outdoor ceramics and Shabbat, where we sang the Shabbat themed version of “Havana” that we created earlier in the week. Week four was an absolute pleasure, and we can’t wait for week five. Have a fantastic weekend!

Group 19 Blog, Week 3

The extraordinary explorer explored camp this week starting with fantastic flying squirrel. We then flew to lacrosse and went through some drills and played a few games. Later we sailed to cooking where we made ice cream. We then scrambled over to tennis where we worked on our serves. We had our carnival day where the extraordinary explorers played in a bouncy house and played an array of games. We then bounced over to soccer where we worked on our dribbling and shooting skills. After soccer we swam on over to swim where we played a game of sharks and minnows. Then the extraordinary explorers finished out the week with an amazing Shabbat where we all shared challa and grape juice. We can’t wait for next week to begin!

Group 21 Blog, Week 3

The Terrific Travelers soared into week 3 of camp with a competitive early morning Lacrosse outing! The girls teamed up to edge the boys out of the win in an early relay to ten goals. Later in the week the kids raced to snatch up weeds in Gardening and barreled through baseball batting up a storm. Wacky Wednesday was wonderfully wacky as group 21 went crazy for the carnival. Bouncing in the bouncy house, munching on popcorn and cotton candy, and punching in prizes in the game booths, they had a blast. Thursday morning Group 21 revealed their
artistic side with perfect portrayals of whacky Giraffes in painting and drawing. Lastly, campers enjoyed their choice of their favorite activity in hobby hour and made great strides in seriously improving their swimming skills. The Terrific Travelers are eager to rush into upcoming adventures in their fourth week of camp!

Group 20 Blog, Week 3

The Greatest Globetrotters (Group 20) had a tremendous time at tennis while teetering their tennis balls on tottering rackets. Some stylish moves were shown on the soccer field as Messi incarnates ferociously fired their soccer balls into the goals. The Greatest Globetrotters gobbled up some good grub such as pancakes, turkey burgers, and tasty tatter tots swim was swamped with splishing and splashing but we had a day of swinging by the sprinklers swiftly. Lots of fun took place with lollipop — I mean lacrosse lances and some kids were pumped for pop fit. Some smiles were made as we broke the seriousness and silence at circus arts. All of the children were going to be doctors, but they ran out of patience. (Ha-ha). We jumped in gymnastics and did some funny antics and shenanigans while having a jolly ol’ time. Camp Carnival created lots of exciting rides and we popped lots of popcorn into our bellies. We beat the heat by slurping our snowcones and boyoyoinged in the bouncy house. We can’t wait for week 4!

Group 13 Blog, Week 3

On Monday the Jazzy Jetsetters of group 13 had an amazing time during kickball; the ball went flying everywhere and later, during baseball, everyone got some serious hits in. It feels as though the future athletes of America are right in front of us. On Wednesday group 13 probably had the most fun out of the entire summer so far, and grew even closer together having fun getting glitter tattoos, jumping all around in the bouncy house, and pushing their skills in the game booths. Now that’s what we call a Wacky Wednesday. Thursday was the day all of group 13 was waiting for. Because Thursday was when they finally got to do flying squirrels and zip line; risks were taken, fears were conquered, and it became a day they’d never forget. What a week for the Jazzy Jetsetters!

Group 16 Blog, Week 3

The Group 16 Superstar Sailors knocked week 4 out of the park starting with some Herculean hits at baseball. Next we painted our particularly playful giraffe portraits at painting and drawing. After that we made our way over to the unit 1 field to indulge in some snow cones, popcorn, and cotton candy during the Wacky Wednesday carnival! We then ran tough and tight training in tennis and cooled off in the pool afterward. We ended the week off with a Shabbat sing-along and we can’t wait to see what kind of silly shenanigans are in store for the Superstar Sailors next week!

The Silly Sightseers have had an amazing and adventurous week so far in Unit 2! Starting on Monday, the campers learned the basics of Lacrosse and had a great time playing catch with eachother! It was so exciting to see the kids learn a new sport and be engaged with each other. After lacrosse the campers played a sport that many people are familiar with at Yomi; Gaga! They all had a fantastic time playing Gaga in a competitive but super fun and supportive environment! After Gaga was zip line time! Everyone in group 12 was so supportive and respectful of each other during zipline. Every camper got a chance to soar through the sky and experience the thrilling fun of zip line! After zipline the kids got the chance to play bongos, tambourines, and maracas with Nelson and sing along to songs like Stand By Me, the Shabbat song, and more! To end their day, the Silly Sightseers took very professional looking photos of nature and of each other outside and got to print them and put them in their own frames. Before we knew it, it was Wacky Wednesday, one of the most exciting days for all campers! This Wacky Wednesday was Carnival! Group 12 got to go in big bouncy houses and slides. Then, everyone got to eat some sweets and snacks! Group 12 got to eat snow cones with their own individual colors, as well as some tasty popcorn and cotton candy! After the amazing treats, the campers got to visit many different booths full of games and tricks. There was also face painting and colorful tattoos for the campers. Carnival was such an amazing experience for every camper at Yomi and especially the Silly Sightseers. Later, they all got to eat their tasty treats! To round off the day the Silly Sightseers learned about the Kiddush Cup in Jewish Culture! They learned that the Kiddish cup is filled with sweet grape juice and then they got to make beautiful drawings of anything they thought was sweet and tasty like the grape juice. This has been an especially amazing week for the Silly Sightseers and there is definitely more in store for this wonderful group!

Group 15 Blog, Week 3

The Valiant Voyagers hailing from Unit 2, group 15, jumped started the week 3 off with a combination of the arts and sports. Circus arts kept us laughing throughout the whole day, even during the downtime of basketball. Tuesday was filled with the arts, nature, and sports. We voyaged the camp grounds to capture sneaky ants, then calmed down with some music and, to start the fun up again, danced at Zumba. This was followed by a low rope course which was a piece of cake for the valiant voyagers. Wednesday was just a blast of fun as the carnival was filled with laughter and excitement, which we had no problem transferring into a concentrated archery session. Shabbat was filled with good memories and fun times, the weekly camp awards were the highlight of the day. Hope to see all my valiant voyegers exploring the mysteries that await us in week 4

Group 19, Week 3

The World Wanderers, group 19, started week three in fantastic fashion, with some super scores in soccer and sublime swishes in basketball. Alongside all the running around, we learned a lot in Jewish culture and coding, such as the complex yet cool computers and the merits of being a leader and a mensch. On wacky Wednesday the World Wanderers truly took to the sky, flying around the bases in kickball before the highly anticipated Carnival!! We ate delicious delicacies from different regions of the world dressed in our Unit 2 green before bouncing to the sky in the bouncy house and sliding back down on the mega-slide. At the many different booths, the World Wanderers got fantastic face paint and knocked down block towers that were sky high! But the fun and excitement this week didn’t end there; the World Wanderers flew through the air on the field zipline, a highlight for campers and counselors alike. It truly was an eventful and fun third week here at Camp Yomi for the world Wanderers!! Have a great weekend, and we can’t wait to see what amazing experiences will present themselves to us next week!!!

Week 3 Blog – Group 22

The Group 22 Pigeons had a spectacular third week. On Monday everybody arrived with a full tank of gas, ready to zoom our way through the week. There was one thing we were all looking forward to, and that was the overnight. Everyone was so excited and was already talking about what they had packed for the upcoming event. It all started with soccer where we practiced our footwork by doing a fun New Jersey snag drill in order to prepare us for the next competitive match.
Tuesday started amazingly at gardening where we picked weeds from the ground. We learned that the weeds take nutrients away from the plants that we want to grow. Even when it began to pour on our heads we remained positive while we did arts and crafts in the warmth of the shelter.
On Wacky Wednesday, we all came to camp dressed in blue in order to represent Unit 3. The Yomi carnival came to camp and we bounced in the bouncy house, slid on the slide and ate cotton candy, popcorn and snow cones. After that, we played field games against other groups, and we defeated Group 25 in a game of Steal the “Challah.”
Thursday was the most exciting day of the week, as we anticipated our long-awaited overnight. It all began after our Yomi electives when we got on the buses that took us to Lucky Strike Bowling Alley. We had a lot of fun knocking down pins and getting high scores. We then came back to camp, which was remarkably empty. We enjoyed our picnic dinner, which consisted of hot dogs, chicken burgers and veggie burgers in the field at the center of camp. The boys and girls separated and we prepared for bedtime. Once our sleeping bags were set up and we put on our jammies, we headed to the bonfire where we sang and cheered while eating s’mores fresh out of the fire and watched our counselors face off in goofy sword fights. Finally, we headed off to our sleeping bags where we had story time before we hit the sack.
We awoke Friday morning to blazing sunshine. We enjoyed our breakfast before heading off to a swim in the pool. We headed back to the unit where we met up with our arriving friends before heading off to a fresh day of camp fun. At archery, we all took turns trying to shoot the bull’s eye like Robin Hood. Next, we had Shabbat where we settled down for the end of overnight. Nelson taught us a new Despacito Shabbat song while we ate challah and drank grape juice. Finally, we prepared for dismissal and said goodbye after a long 48 hours of camp togetherness. The Group 22 Pigeons will rest up this weekend and return to camp, arriving with even more spirit than last week.

We had the best third week and can’t wait to spend the rest of summer together here at Camp Yomi!

Group 18 had a fantastic 2nd week of camp! We flew all around camp all the way from tennis down to archery. We had a blast in the pool, since we just started instructional swim. We had a great time on Wacky Wednesday; the entire group was dressed in their favorite storybook character’s costumes. Our counselors were even wearing matching costumes! They were One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, and Blue Fish. We also won the caterpillar race against Groups 16 and 17. Our entire group was also in the trailer video for wacky Wednesday on the bus, just like the movie stars that we are! Week 2 was amazing, and we’re hoping for an even better week 3!

Our beautiful campgrounds have over 50 acres of grass, courts, and fields to play on. With over 12 active activities, our campers are sure to get in the game! Group 17 Blog, Week 2

This week the courageous cruisers, group-17, were just that: Courageous and cruising. We conquered fears at zipline, met Maui, and had many other novel experiences. Like on Tuesday, when we went boating for the first time, and had a blast racing. We also explored our minds by engaging in creativity activities such as ceramics, and arts and crafts. Another new experience was archery, where we not only learned how to wield a bow and arrow, but learned of the responsibility to safety wielding such an instrument requires. Then there was the usual stuff, but that didn’t mean it was any less fun! At basketball we did our best Michael Jordon impressions, and at swim, we had a blast playing Marco Polo with our counselors. Week 2 was amazing; we can’t wait to see what week 3 has in store.

Group 14 Blog, Week 2

The extraordinary explorers had an amazing week at camp! We started off the fun filled week with archery. The group showed off their super skills with all of the campers hitting the target! Later, the group turned into animals at circus arts. The campers each pantomimed a different animal while the rest of the group tried to guess what it was. On Tuesday the group had a blast hitting home runs at baseball. The campers also became perfect programmers at coding! They gave coded instructions to a character of their choice in a minecraft coding game. This week was our first Wacky Wednesday of the summer: storybook character day! We started off the day at zumba where our campers displayed impressive dance moves. One of our super fun Wacky Wednesday activities was a Winnie the Pooh themed scavenger hunt. Our group got second place and learned the valuable lesson of “slow and steady wins the race.” Later in the day, many of our stunningly smart campers were aces during trivia. At boating on Thursday the campers had an amazing time having paddle boat races and singing the “rock the boat” cheer. We also had our second hobby hour of the summer this week. All the campers got to choose one of their favorite activities to do for one hour! Everyday the campers had a splashing time at the pool! This week we played many group games like sharks and minnows, stuck in the mud, and water sardines. We are so excited for camp next week! And hope everyone has a great weekend.

Group 12 Blog, Week 2

The Silly Sightseers continued week 2 with the same, huge amount of energy and spirit they had during week 1. Monday started off with a lot of rhythm in music. Group 12 then was able to practice their accuracy during archery. Circus Arts was funny as always, as jokes were made while the campers had the opportunity to play fun animal games. Basketball was a blast, where campers got a chance to improve their jump shot. Tuesday baseball was an all-around success; everyone got to show off their powerful swings. At gardening we got a chance to see just what grows in that garden. During Pop Fit Kids, all the campers participated in relay races, and got to show off how fast they could run. Wednesday was Storybook character day and all the campers came dressed up as their favorite character. They also partook in theme games and were certainly entertained by this week’s entertainer. Thursday, campers got a chance to enjoy their favorite activity during Hobby Hour. Campers’ soccer skills were on full display when they enjoyed a game of campers vs. counselors! As always the days ended with free and instructional swim, where campers were happy and playful! We very much look forward to the many camp days still yet to come.

Group 13 Blog, Week 2

Coming back from a fabulous weekend group 13 returned to embrace plenty of new faces. We landed right into a fierce, affectionate and energetic game of lacrosse where each camper learned different skills, but showed off their own. The jazzy jetsetters then continued with their high spirit and energy on the way to baseball. Group 13 shows the true definition of sportsmanship to one another, and cheered on both teams. Soon enough the new campers settled in and began to see that they were joining a group full of amazing returning campers in unit 2 and the yomi family. This Wednesday was, as always, a wacky one. And even though not all campers were dressed up, we all participated in the goofy activities. The counselors were also filled with a huge amount of spirit, support, and energy, which contributed to success in all games, but also at just making each camper have an amazing time. Later, during the day, group 13 had a blast as we all splashed in the pool and played with beach balls, playing games like marco polo, shark in the pool, and the dolphin races. The jazzy jetsetters then used their creativity in painting and drawing where they drew their own giraffe and then painted it. As the days go on I can say that group 13 is turning into a family rather than just a group. We can’t wait to see the other fun and amazing activities that Camp Yomi has to offer!

Group 15 Blog, Week 2

Group 15, the Valiant Voyagers, quickly started out week 2 by traveling around the camp having fun and enjoying the sun. Starting off the week, the voyagers explored Pop Fit Kids, which provided the children with various exercises and drills. Just after, they rolled their way through gymnastics, smiled for the camera on picture day, soared on the zipline, and closed out the day with swim. On Tuesday, group 15 energetically whacked yellow balls in tennis, relaxed in yoga, created cool and exciting videos in filmmaking, and even beat the counselors in a game of soccer. Wacky Wednesday came along and all the kids enjoyed creating characters with googly eyes, playing games, having a huge scavenger hunt, and participating in a wacky game show. Later that day, the kids played frisbee and then swam. The next day, they visited the vibrant garden, went to an activity of their choosing at hobby hour, and created delicious cookies and frosting in cooking. The Valiant Voyagers couldn’t have hoped for a better Week 2. And we can’t wait to say the same of week 3!

Group 20 Blog, Week 2

It was yet another fantastic week for Group 20! We had an amazing start on Monday at Outdoor Ceramics where we carved, scratched, and attached our heart’s out creating our perfect pinch-pot baskets; and that was only the beginning. We all embodied our best majestic robots at Zumba, played like pros at Baseball, and became brilliant environmentalists at Nature. On Tuesday we sprang into action at Soccer and had a World Cup of our own. But wait, who could forget the afternoon jam session with Nelson?! Our Group 20 chorus could out-class even the greatest of symphonies! By the time Wednesday came around, we could hardly contain our excitement; it was mouse ears, capes, and crowns galore as we dressed up as our favorite storybook characters for Wacky Wednesday! From relay races, to a Unit 2-wide Scavenger Hunt, to even a live Quiz Game show in the Amphitheater, our Wacky Wednesday was action packed from the get-go. As if our week couldn’t get any more exciting already, Thursday brought more fun than we ever could have imagined. At Lacrosse we learned how to master shooting–seriously, every single person made a goal! Then, we picked up our water bottles, put on our Group 20 smiles, and headed off to Hobby Hour. From activity to activity we consistently showed off our Group 20 abilities–truly cementing our legacy as the Greatest Globetrotters.

Group 19 Blog, Week 2

The World Wanderers, Group 19, began the week by flying in style to the flying squirrel. The group flew higher and faster than any plane in the sky! But the excitement did not stop there. Later we traveled to frisbee and volleyball, where the energy and participation was as high as the sky. In ceramics we made the most perfect and crazy pinch pot monsters you will ever see! On Wacky Wednesday the costumes took us to a diverse land of storybook characters. Group 19 took home the gold medal in the “Chair for My Mother” Coin Relay Race in both speed and spirit! This week came to an end with many activities like archery, where bullseyes were being shot left and right. We wish everyone a great weekend, and can’t wait for next week to see where else the World Wanderers will explore!

Group 21 Blog, Week 2

This week the terrific travelers of unit 2 flew through camp yomi on the fun filled flying squirrel and wowed each other with our amazing archery. Tuesday we scored in soccer, a game that rivaled the world cup in excitement. In cooking we baked and designed delectable cupcake treats. Wacky Wednesday was wild and wonderful with this week’s storybook theme; games like the hungry caterpillar and coin relay were crazy fun. Group 21 took home first place on the Camp Yomi scavenger hunt proving that we are the best of the best! Later, tricky trivia was no match for our wit, once again letting group 21 win the game. Thursday we clowned around at circus arts where we balanced peacock feathers on the tips of our fingers. Filmmaking was fantastic, we got to make a documentary about group 21 and every camper got to be a camera man! Friday went by like a whirlwind when we danced our hearts out at Zumba and saw a few homeruns at baseball. And we can’t wait to do it all again next week!

Week 2 Blog – Group 11

The Shining Sharks had an awesome week filled with loads of energy and excitement! We started the week with our group picture! On Monday, the campers played field games, and ended the day with a session of yoga. On Tuesday, the Shining Sharks learned about the different plants that are growing in our own camp. In the next activity, the campers turned into photographers, and took beautiful pictures of the camp. Lastly, they played an intense game of basketball. Our first Wacky Wednesday was a success! Many counselors and campers were dressed up as their favorite storybook character. We started the day with a game show in which the campers went up to answer trivia questions and complete different challenges. During our Wacky Wednesday activity, we made puppets, decorated dragons and completed an obstacle course. Some of the other activities we had during the day were soccer, painting and of course, swim. They used all their energy dribbling at Basketball and running the bases at Baseball–everyone did amazing even though it was some of their first time playing. On Tuesday, they showed off their best smiles at Picture Day and loved getting their very own Yomi Bear T-shirts. Group 1 danced into Wednesday when they had Jewish Music, where they got to learn all the spectacular songs that they were going to sing on Friday during Shabbat. Thursday brought the best of both worlds with the thrilling Mini Zip and then had some relaxing time under the Yoga tree where they shared their favorite activity at camp. Group 1 finished off the week singing and dancing together with all their friends at Shabbat, sipping on grape juice and enjoying delicious challah!

Week 2 Blog – Group 6

The Jolly Jellyfish couldn’t have had more fun this week! This week started out with a hot Monday, but our group still had fun during our numerous activities, including a fantastic game of Gaga. On Tuesday The Jolly Jellyfish truly expressed their inner musicians by playing awesome beats and singing during Music with Nelson. Group 6 took on this week by really enjoying all of their instructional swim and free swim activities. We then had an appetizing experience during our Gardening class in which each camper got the opportunity to taste the delicious fresh vegetables and herbs grown in our very own garden! On Wednesday morning the sun was out and about for our first Wacky Wednesday, the theme being “Storybook Characters!” Our whole unit dressed up as their favorite character. Our campers enjoyed many activities all centered around storybook characters and particularly enjoyed the puppet making where they each got to make a puppet of their favorite character. In the afternoon, Group 6 enjoyed a lovely class of yoga where they got the opportunity to demonstrate their flexibility and relax. We finished up our week with some awesome dance moves in Zumba where campers danced out all their spirit and energy while playing a FREEZE-tastic game of freeze dance! And we can’t forget Arts and Crafts where the Jolly Jellyfish made amazing sun catchers in hopes of hanging them on their windows. As exciting as our week was the Jolly Jellyfish can’t wait to swim into next week’s activities which will hold even more fun! We all hope you enjoy your weekend, and tune in next week for more on our exciting camp experience!

Activities at Camp

Our beautiful campgrounds have over 50 acres of grass, courts, and fields to play on. With over 12 active activities, our campers are sure to get in the game! Our sports activities are coached by professional sports organizations and instructors such as; The Baseball Center, Tennis Innovators, and Super Soccer Stars.

This week, Fly Yoga instructors coached campers on how to create stories using only body movements. Campers dribbled down the court at basketball, learning special reasoning on the court.

Unit 3 and 4 campers have the option of joining the weekly Sports Club activity for even more sports in their schedule. During Sports Club, campers enhance their skills, receive extra practice time and specialized instruction.

 Counselor of the Week

Every week we choose an extraordinary staff member(s) from each unit who exemplifies all five of our camps’ core values. We look for someone who is compassionate, mindful, courageous, a leader, and most importantly an overall mensch! These individuals go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure smiling, laughter, and safe summer fun! These handful of super counselors get the esteemed honor of being Counselor of the Week.
