Group 11 Blog – Week 3

The Shining Sharks had a ton of fun this week!  Our week started off with a bang with Lacrosse where everyone had a great time playing steal the bacon.  Then we went to Circus Arts, which no one left without a smile on their face. On Tuesday we hit home runs at baseball before rolling into Gymnastics where we became mini American Ninja Warriors on an obstacle course!  Finally, we roamed the campgrounds taking beautiful pictures and just managed to beat the storm. Wacky Wednesday was awesome! Our whole unit was wearing red and everyone loved the bouncy house and huge slide!  Campers also got to eat yummy snacks, like popcorn and cotton candy!  After the rides, we went and played a ton of carnival games, everything from sack races to sand art. We even got glitter tattoos! Thursday was just as fun, it started with arts and crafts, and after that everyone got a thrill on the mini zip.  The day ended perfectly with a nice refreshing swim in the pool.  We all ate well on Friday, when we made fruit tarts at cooking and learned about water at pioneering.  We finished our amazing week off with Shabbat! We can’t wait for next week!  Have a great weekend!

Week 2 Blog – Group 11

The Shining Sharks had an awesome week filled with loads of energy and excitement! We started the week with our group picture! On Monday, the campers played field games, and ended the day with a session of yoga. On Tuesday, the Shining Sharks learned about the different plants that are growing in our own camp. In the next activity, the campers turned into photographers, and took beautiful pictures of the camp. Lastly, they played an intense game of basketball. Our first Wacky Wednesday was a success! Many counselors and campers were dressed up as their favorite storybook character. We started the day with a game show in which the campers went up to answer trivia questions and complete different challenges. During our Wacky Wednesday activity, we made puppets, decorated dragons and completed an obstacle course. Some of the other activities we had during the day were soccer, painting and of course, swim. During soccer, the campers were divided into groups and played against each other. During painting, the campers painted their own wacky giraffe. At the end of the day, the Shining Sharks had a blast running around, chasing each other in the sprinklers. On Thursday, the campers had a busy day that consisted of filmmaking, pop fit kids, free swim and everyone’s favorite music. In filmmaking, the Sharks got to use a camera and make short movies of themselves. The campers enjoyed themselves in pop fit kids, playing different games such as fit, fit, run and roll the dice!. Pop fit kids is a fun way for the campers to stay active and healthy! During music, the Shining Sharks turned into Shining Artists as they played with many different instruments. On Friday, the campers enjoyed themselves at our weekly Shabbat celebration. The campers love Shabbat, they get to dance, sing, eat challah and drink grape juice. The campers had an amazing week! We all left camp on Friday with anticipation for the next week to start! Can’t wait to see what were doing next week!

Our beautiful campgrounds have over 50 acres of grass, courts, and fields to play on. With over 12 active activities, our campers are sure to get in the game! Our sports activities are coached by professional sports organizations and instructors such as; The Baseball Center, Tennis Innovators, and Super Soccer Stars.

This week, Fly Yoga instructors coached campers on how to create stories using only body movements. Campers dribbled down the court at basketball, learning special reasoning on the court.

Unit 3 and 4 campers have the option of joining the weekly Sports Club activity for even more sports in their schedule. During Sports Club, campers enhance their skills, receive extra practice time and specialized instruction.

Counselor of the Week

Every week we choose an extraordinary staff member(s) from each unit who exemplifies all five of our camps’ core values. We look for someone who is compassionate, mindful, courageous, a leader, and most importantly an overall mensch! These individuals go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure smiling, laughter, and safe summer fun! These handful of super counselors get the esteemed honor of being Counselor of the Week.

On Monday, the kids had a ton of fun playing soccer. Many of them scored goals and some of them even managed to get a Hat trick!  Tuesday was a day like no other, during the middle of the day it started pouring cats and dogs.  However, we were able to overcome the rain by gathering around in the shelter and singing wonderful cheers which each group participated in. We even held a dance off battle among the counselors and the campers we loudly cheering us on!  Thursday was another great day!  During late night we had a scavenger hunt.  We had to find our missing counselor!  The campers had so much fun.  Lastly, after some more activities like making a ocean out of a bottle and playing under the sea tag we all gathered around and ate dinner on the Unit 1 field.  On Friday, we all had Shabbat as a camp and even got to go swimming in the afternoon!  Group 11 had such a great week and we’re really looking forward to the next one!
