Group 9’s sixth week went by flying as we approached week 7! On Monday, we went to Soccer where we scored so many goals. We also went to ceramics, where we made snails, and lacrosse, where we also scored a lot of goals and played as a team! On Tuesday we went to Baseball where many of us hit home runs! We also went to gardening and painting and drawing where we had a lot of fun learning about plants and making dinosaurs! On Wacky Wednesday, we had a Safari Carnival where we did lots of activities like face paint, glitter tattoos, and trivia. On Thursday we had photography, kickball and nature. We got to pick the pictures that we took and design them. In nature we picked up worms and learned more about them. We had such a great time on Friday at Shabbat, too, where we sang and danced, had challah, and drank grape juice! Have a wonderful weekend!
The Stellar Sea Dragons continue to have the most amazing weeks this summer. Week 5 started off just as great the others. We start off our week with the flying squirrel where the sea dragons soared through the air. Who knew sea dragons could fly too!? After doing that the Sea Dragons also enjoyed going to pop fit kids where they got to show off their speed. This week we also played super intense games of soccer! We also rehearsed our dance moves for Yomi Idol where we danced to “You’re Welcome.” Because the Sea Dragons practiced so hard and were so amazing, they made it into the finals of Yomi Idol, where they preformed to the whole camp! After doing that, the Sea Dragons received an award for how well they did. The next day the Sea Dragons played baseball and went to painting and drawing, where we made AWESOME treasure maps. Next, we went to Jewish culture and the Sea Dragons asked such interesting questions. We then ended off our day with late night where we had a big headphone party and made stuffed tigers. Friday was eventful as usual with an awesome shabbat celebration. Have a great weekend!
This week’s weather may have been a downer, but group 9’s spirit has never been more up! We started off the week with a movie, The Emperor’s New Groove. On Tuesday, the weather cleared up and we were back to our regular schedule. Our campers learned how to play different instruments in Music and made nature collages in Gardening. This week’s Wacky Wednesday theme was Yomi Bear’s Birthday Bash. Even though there was rain, it didn’t stop us from having the best birthday bash ever! Our group made some birthday decorations for our shelter and customized their own party hats. Then we took a bus to the hotel to have an EPIC DANCE PARTY. All of our campers showed off their amazing dance moves and had such a good time. We wrapped our Wacky Wednesday with a special reading of “Wacky Wednesday” by Dr. Seuss. On Thursday the weather cleared up and we were able to work up a sweat by playing soccer. Since Yomi Idol is also coming up (get pumped!), group 9 had their first ever Yomi Idol practice. We then had Jewish music, where all of us learned to sing the Shabbat songs (just in time for Friday Shabbat). Things are looking super exciting next week and the Swimming Sea Dragons are more than ready for Yomi Idol and all the new activities.
Have you ever wondered what it is like to ride a bus to camp? You should ask one of the buses that recently won bus of the week. Bus of the week can be earned for many different reasons, some of which include: being spirited, being organized, having fun, being friendly, and inclusive. Our “spies” ride the buses each week looking out for all of these different things. On Fridays at dismissal it is tradition that Yomi Bear appears at camp and helps announce the bus of the week winners. If your camper’s bus wins Bus of the Week, make sure to congratulate them – it’s a big deal in our world!
Group 9’s third week went fabulously well, from going to carnival on Wacky Wednesday to playing baseball on Thursday. This week was just full of fun and amazing moments with the kids, we made bracelets at jewelry making on Monday and cheered the afternoon away while it was raining on Tuesday. Seeing the smiles on the campers faces is the highlight of every counselor’s day! On Thursday, we got to put our creativity to the test at Arts & Crafts and practice our exercises at Pop Fit Kids! Friday has to be the most exciting day of the week, because it’s shabbat!! This is where the kids get to sing together and dance their little hearts out. The counselors in group 9 are excited to see what the remaining weeks have in store for us and the campers, and what fun lies ahead of us. We hope everyone has an amazing weekend!
Group 9, The Swimming Sea Dragons, had a great second week at Camp Yomi! It went by flying with loads of energy and excitement! On Monday the Swimming Sea Dragons first started of with instructional swim where we had lots of fun doing different challenges with the lifeguard instructors and played games as well. We finished up the day with baseball and cooking. The Swimming Sea Dragons flew through the bases and hit many home runs, we also all loved frosting our cookies and eating them. We also had picture day at the end of the day where we all looked very sharp in our Camp Yomi t-shirts! On Tuesday we all had so much fun at painting and drawing using our wonderful imagination. We then went to Yoga and Outdoor Ceramics where we all listened for instructions and had so much fun building. On Wednesday we had Wacky Wednesday where we were all dressed in our favorite storybook characters and participated in a Brain Challenge gameshow! The Swimming Sea Dragons were a part of the blue team and won our very first Wacky Wednesday Brain Challenge. To finish off the day we had Zumba where we all danced our hearts out and went to soccer for a fun match amongst each other, which ended in a tie. On Thursday we had our first day of Gardening where we saw different foods growing and even got to taste one of them. We then headed off to Gaga where everyone had lots of fun trying to eliminate each other. To finish of the day we went to Mini Zip in which all of the campers were so brave and excited to participate in. We were all so excited to try pioneering and lacrosse on Friday. We had such a great time at Shabbat, dancing and singing with each other. We can’t wait for next week to experience new activities with full of excitement. Have a wonderful weekend everyone. See you all on Tuesday for our very first parent night! YAY!!
Our beautiful campgrounds have over 50 acres of grass, courts, and fields to play on. With over 12 active activities, our campers are sure to get in the game! Our sports activities are coached by professional sports organizations and instructors such as; The Baseball Center, Tennis Innovators, and Super Soccer Stars.
This week, Fly Yoga instructors coached campers on how to create stories using only body movements. Campers dribbled down the court at basketball, learning special reasoning on the court.
Unit 3 and 4 campers have the option of joining the weekly Sports Club activity for even more sports in their schedule. During Sports Club, campers enhance their skills, receive extra practice time and specialized instruction.
Counselor of the Week
Every week we choose an extraordinary staff member(s) from each unit who exemplifies all five of our camps’ core values. We look for someone who is compassionate, mindful, courageous, a leader, and most importantly an overall mensch! These individuals go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure smiling, laughter, and safe summer fun! These handful of super counselors get the esteemed honor of being Counselor of the Week.
Group 9 started off their second week at camp Yomi with a big splash!! The Swimming Sea Dragons showed just as much enthusiasm as they did last week. They always have a warm welcome in the morning by talking to the new friends that they have made, as well as all of us playing games in the grass together. Despite the hot sun, The Swimming Sea Dragons continued to beat the odds not letting the heat stop them. Showing so much energy through this amazing week. We made the most of this week especially during Tuesday. The day was searing hot but we still managed to do our activities. One of the activities was Pop Fit Kids, where we would go through a series of mini obstacle courses and show off our strength! Then, we enjoyed jamming out in music with Nelson, where we played all sorts of instruments and sang many songs. And to end the day it began to rain, but did that stop us? Of course not! We kept up our positive energy by singing cheers as loud as we could in our shelter, while the rain passed. On Thursday after coming back from our one day break we enjoyed doing our low ropes course. We got to climb across a giant log and walk along a tightrope. After that we went to our jewelry making class and the campers and counselor made some amazing bracelets! We then ended our day with our first late night! We got to go on a scavenger hunt for our missing counselor and make oceans! We also got to act like sea creatures and play under the sea themed games! We ended our late night off by eating some amazing food and cheering all the way on the bus home. We had such a great week and we’re looking forward to the next one!

Group 9’s first week at Yomi went swimmingly! The Swimming Sea Dragons dove into the first day of camp with gusto! We started off our Wednesday by turning our name/fun fact introductions into a game, where our counselors guessed each camper’s names and favorite color. Everyone was super excited about our game and it was such a fun way to get to know each other. Then our group went to the very first swim of this summer! We all spent our pool time relaxing and having a great time in the water. In our Arts and Crafts period, our campers made self portraits so good, it was like looking into a mirror! We also had a great time in Soccer and Zumba where everyone worked up a sweat. On Thursday, we all went to film-making, where everyone got to be directors and make a special group 9 video! We then had some fun at the Jewish Culture station where we learned more about Shabbat! On Friday, we got to celebrate Shabbat with all of Unit 1 and one of our very own counselors won counselor of the week! We’re looking forward to next week! Have a wonderful 4th of July!
