Group 5 had an awesome time this week at camp. Group 5 kicked the week off by swishing and dishing at basketball. Before parent night, group 5 made amazing collages at arts a crafts and got to jam out in music with Nelson. On Wacky Wednesday, group 5 put on an amazing show with their dance to “Under the Sea,” where they received the “most energy” award! During the late night, group 5 danced our hearts out during our silent dance party before making our very own stuffed animals and enjoying a barbecue dinner. The group closed the spectacular week by enjoying their grape juice and challah at Shabbat and singing and dancing with all of unit 1! We had such an awesome week and we’re looking forward to the next one!
Group 5 had a wonderful week at camp from participating in a heated baseball game to enjoying a relaxing yoga session. On Monday, the Pufferfish watched The Emperor’s New Groove and followed the plot with every twist and turn.
On Tuesday, the puffer fish enjoyed traveling through Israel during Pioneering. Wacky Wednesday was the long awaited Yomi Bear’s birthday bash! For the occasion, the Poppin Pufferfish decorated party hats that they then wore to the birthday bash. At Yomi bear’s party, group five enjoyed dancing to their favorite songs and listening to Ivy read wacky Wednesday by Dr. Seuss. On Thursday, the group made beaded bracelets during jewelry. After, they had a blast playing with beach balls during free swim! Shabbat on Friday was, as usual, a great way to end the week.
We have been practicing our dance to under the sea and cannot wait to show it off at Yomi idol next week!
Have you ever wondered what it is like to ride a bus to camp? You should ask one of the buses that recently won bus of the week. Bus of the week can be earned for many different reasons, some of which include: being spirited, being organized, having fun, being friendly, and inclusive. Our “spies” ride the buses each week looking out for all of these different things. On Fridays at dismissal it is tradition that Yomi Bear appears at camp and helps announce the bus of the week winners. If your camper’s bus wins Bus of the Week, make sure to congratulate them – it’s a big deal in our world!
Group 5 had a very fun and exciting week at camp! On Monday, we had our first cooking session where campers got to make (and eat!) their own Fruit tarts! Following Monday’s fun activities, Tuesday, campers got to have fun with starter golf and do cool obstacle courses! Wacky Wednesday was as sweet as all the icees, cotton candy, and popcorn campers got to eat along with the exciting carnival games and rides they got to experience! On Thursday, campers brought out their inner clowns and practiced silly circus acts! To end the sweet and silly week, campers got to practice their lacrosse skills with some fun games and drills and celebrate Shabbat with all our friends! We are so excited for what the next week has to bring for Group 5 at Camp Yomi!! Can’t wait to see you there!
Group 5 had a very successful 2nd week at camp, participating in many new and exciting activities. We were excited to take our group picture for picture day on Monday. On Tuesday, group 5 got to practice our pottery skills and play an awesome game of soccer. For wacky Wednesday, this week, our theme was storybook characters. Campers and counselors got to dress up as their favorite story book character and participate in an exciting trivia game show in the morning! We also got to make dragon masks and puppets. On Thursday, we got to show off our yoga poses and on Friday we all got to celebrate Shabbat and take some awesome pictures! Overall, group 5 had an outstanding week and we can’t wait to dive into the next one!
Our beautiful campgrounds have over 50 acres of grass, courts, and fields to play on. With over 12 active activities, our campers are sure to get in the game! Our sports activities are coached by professional sports organizations and instructors such as; The Baseball Center, Tennis Innovators, and Super Soccer Stars.
This week, Fly Yoga instructors coached campers on how to create stories using only body movements. Campers dribbled down the court at basketball, learning special reasoning on the court.
Unit 3 and 4 campers have the option of joining the weekly Sports Club activity for even more sports in their schedule. During Sports Club, campers enhance their skills, receive extra practice time and specialized instruction.
Counselor of the Week
Every week we choose an extraordinary staff member(s) from each unit who exemplifies all five of our camps’ core values. We look for someone who is compassionate, mindful, courageous, a leader, and most importantly an overall mensch! These individuals go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure smiling, laughter, and safe summer fun! These handful of super counselors get the esteemed honor of being Counselor of the Week.
What a wonderful second week of camp it has been at Camp Yomi, especially for Group 5! The Popping Puffer Fish started off the week right by making swans that were made out of clay, and by having an extra free swim, making it two for the day. Instructional swim started on Tuesday. Tuesday was a great day at Camp Yomi for group 5 even though it rained! The group did enjoy a great time doing gymnastics. On Wednesday, the 4th of July there was no camp as everyone was out and celebrating the holiday. Group 5 hopes everyone had a well spent day off and enjoyed time with their families! Thursday was an incredible day as it marked our first late night as a group and as a unit. With three swim periods, a scavenger hunt, making oceans, and having a picnic on the field, we, as the Popping Puffer Fish, would say we had a terrific second week here at Camp Yomi. On Friday we enjoyed Shabbat as a whole unit and sang songs to celebrate the holiday. Every camper in group 5 loved basketball, and it was even recognized as one of the best sports that every camper in the group has played. We hope all our group 5 families have a great weekend and we’re really looking forward to next week!
